24 hour cancellation policy - Easy Jet?

Hi! Well as you could see by my first post, I didn't book the holiday by mistake - my OH did. I could agree and say he's stoopid but as he was trying to book a break to take me away for New Year you'll understand I'd forgive him anything.
There's a couple of reasons he'd booked by mistake. Firstly, as some of you pointed out he was attempting to use the current code on wheels of deals promotion. He inputted the correct code and assumed that the discount would be taken off later - his mistake (1) as after he'd screamed a couple of times after reading the e-mail confirmation and woken me up we managed to track back to the fact that he hadn't pressed 'submit code' - mistake number 2.
Finally to really top it off in his eagerness to book this break he hadn't checked that I could have New Year off from work (I've a new job in the NHS) and assumed that as in years of past I'd have this time off as standard! Mistake number 3.
I think you'd agree that there's a few mistakes here and the only intention was to make me happy - husbands eh!
I was really unhappy about the sarcastic comments as they were unnecessary and my point was all along that the astronomical cancellation fees were not very apparent and in fact (unless I'm completely mad) they've charged me for booked luggage as an unrefundable fee but make NO mention of this in any of the terms, there's also no mention of a hotel cancellation fee in there terms either - well not that I can see... no doubt I'll be proved wrong.
Hope this helps with the curious (I would have been too!)Ladedah0 -
Had a feeling it was to do with the offer. No consolation but you were not the only person caught out. The other poster was planning to fight Easyjet over what was essentially her mistake. I think you did the right thing, admit your mistake (well, his mistake, I'd rather blame a man!), and cancel it for as little cost as possible.
I don't let men near my laptop (or credit card) ... always causes trouble! xGone ... or have I?0 -
Sorry you feel that way froogle. I was mearly highlighting that the booking wasnt a mistake and the way you shifted the blame on to Easyjet.
Yes we all make mistakes, thats how we all learn and sometimes it can be expensive, and I suppose your loss and experience will benefit others, which now that you have highlighted, we thank you.
We only really benefit however if we accept responsibility for our own actions and mistakes.
This travelboard is becoming over run with similar tales of woe (often venomous) from people who ignore t&cs ,change their mind, want to ammend bookings, dates names, cancel and expect companies to just bend over and do it free (or virtually). When they dont its " Dont anyone book with Blah.com, they CONNED me" etc.
If you had said your husband/boyfriend had got carried away on the wheel of fortune promo, beware and be aware of what you are booking, I am pretty sure I would have been sympathetic and understanding.
As Dmg24 has said, he is NOT ALONE. I bet lots of people have succumbed to this very clever, if slightly hypnotic (yes I mean it) marketing.
The last one, I myself was up half the night trying to get a bargain.0 -
I was recommended the site by a friend from Europe as we are planning a visit. I was very careful before submitting my information and booking my flight that there was an option to cancel. They have a 24 hour cancel policy from time of booking. And if you are not able to cancel within that time then you could use the value of your booking at another time with a change fee or transfer to someone. This all makes sense for a low budget airline. Well just a few hours after booking my friend advised that the trip is no longer feasible at this time. Well good thing 24 hours have not passed. I decided to request my refund minus any penalty or admin fee. That is fair for only having been booked less than a day. Problem is I am in the U.S. and at no point did any of the information state that being in the U.S. I cannot call to any of the numbers offered to cancel. I spend 3 hours dialing every single number offered and re-reading all the policies and procedures and scouring the site for any information and finally resolved to sending an email in the enquiry section. Despite that I clearly explained I had dialed every number on their site the response I received was I cannot cancel by email and must do it by phone for the 24 hr cancel policy to be enforced. I was then given a number which was already on their site, which I already called, which states that it is no longer valid and offers me more numbers as alternatives which once again don't work. There were different numbers offered for many countries that one could dial from but none from the U.S. I have now written them 4 times clearly explaining that the numbers they keep giving me state they are not valid but they keep sending me the same response. Even when I post the number and explain I have called it they send the same rehashed cut and paste response and give me the same number again. Convenient as now it is past the 24 hour policy. So they are holding seats for my husband and I that will clearly be empty. Only thing I can say is it is set up to purposely keep people's money regardless of policy as eventually most people give up! If anyone has any idea how to get my hands on a number that I can dial from the states I would be happy to keep trying. The number given is 0044 870 6 000 000 - from states I dial 011 instead of 00 before the 44. But recording states this number is invalid and offers other numbers depending on your enquiry.
Very disappointing first (and last) experience with easyjet!0 -
Easyjet's website says, fairly clearly, that none of their main UK numbers work from overseas. It then goes on to give specific numbers for other countries, and says that 00 44 870 6 000 000 should work from anywhere. If that is not true, they can't hold you to their 24 hour cancellation time!0

Yet again , only half a story.
What major disaster happened to your friend, in the 2 hours that made the trip "no longer feasible" a few hours after booking.
Unless someone died, non of my "friends" would do this to me0 -

Eh? You should be dialling 0044 870 6 000 000, why does 011 need to come before the 44? Apologies in advance if this is something to do with the US phone system I don't know about
Try http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php and enter easyjet - try the 'geographical' numbers - there you simply drop the "0" from the start of the number and prefix with 0044, good luck0 -

Please if anybody can learn something from this I'd at least feel that my wasted money did something!!! BEWARE THE CANCELLATION FEES OF EASY JET - not so Easy refund eh! They make it very very hard to actually see the cost to yourself if you make a mistake - I wonder how this stands with cooling off periods?????
La
And how do you "accidentally" book a holiday, AND pay for it??? Are you saying that you DH made a mistakeHow is that Easy Jets fault/problem?

To make an international call, you dial a prefix, followed by a country code. If you are in the UK, the prefix is 00, but in the USA you begin by dialling 00, then the code for the UK, which is 44.
Anyway, the saynoto0870 site is a good source of alternative numbers, some of which may work from the USA.0 -

You dial 011 then 44 ...
