Buyer wants to see our old survey

We decided that, as we paid £1,500 for the survey, they shouldn't get it for free. We said they could buy it from us for £250 and they said no.

Maybe they'll get their own done now.

Sounds like you paid out a lot of money for a full buildings survey.....they seem to show every little thing and in an older house can be frightening reading but largely insignificant. Even our Homebuyers on our 30s semi was quite a frightening read....at first glance. We were told for instance that our old roof was good for 5 more years and we have been here 15 years and it does not leak.

I wouldn't be letting them have it, they could use it to your disadvantage. How did they know you had a buildings survey back then, did the estate agent tell them so ? I think most people would expect to commission their own survey.

  • Sounds like they've been tight and were trying to get some extra information which is years old anyway. I don't know why, when choosing to cut corners people do it with the survey.
I'd have told them 'no' too. Yes you want to sell your house but at the same time, people can take the P.
  • I would have been inclined to say no in your situation. Nothing much flagged on our survey and what did are things we are probably going to rectify anyway, so I wouldn't be against sharing it with potential buyers if I was selling. Yours just sound like they aren't bothering to get one though, and I would be concerned if they start asking why you didn't do x, y and z and getting picky over it. The alternative is you say no, they might get their own or they might not. But possibly more to go wrong if you do show it from the sounds of it.

Be careful that you don't come across as petty (and money grabbing).

It might have been better to find an excuse and just said "no".

(If they asked to see the invoice/report for the last boiler service would you also say "Only if you pay me £10 - otherwise pay for your own service")
