I wonder if anyone can help me please?
I have a megadrive which I could use on the telly in the lounge, the television is under five years old. I moved the megadrive to my craftroom which has a newer telly in it, probably 1 - 2 years old and can't find out how to get the megadrive to work on it. It's a Samsung TV but a cheap one lol. Any Ideas please.
I've read the instruction book but can't find anything relevant.:(

What ports/connections does the tv have ?0

Do you mean a Sega Mega Drive ?
Exact model of TV please.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
Something like this would do : http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00R3O7ZDQ/
But it depends on what input your TV has. Newer Samsungs need a special adapter to use AV cables; it may look like this:
Is it a mega drive 1 or 2? Plenty of cables to be had here: https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/games-consoles/sega/mega-drive-10 -
Have you connected the megadrive to the TV via the RF port?
If so, then you'll have to tune it in manually via the TVAll your base are belong to us.0 -
Megadrive comes with an RF modulator as far as I remember, so as Retrogamer says, you can use it on any TV with an analogue tuner. Cable goes from Megadrive to the aerial port on the TV, then the aeriel plugs in through that. Put your TV onto the analogue tuner, turn the Megadrive on, and if you do an 'autotune' or similar on your TV, it should find ONE channel - the Megadrive.
Analogue RF is about the lowest quality you can get and I'm sure you can buy higher quality cables if you want to use it a lot but for a wee retro session it'll be grand.0 -
Thank you for the replies.
Yes it's a Sega Megadrive.
I've had a go at retuning the analogue system but think I've done something wrong as it's not working. Technology is something I don't understand at all so will get my son to have a look. Not sure when that will be though.
Thanks again.0 -
Are you using the RF modulator or a straight gable? (the RF modulator had a box on it from memory), as the straight cable won't work.
It should generally be plug and play with the TV just needing tuned as has been said, although it's been about 15 years since I due out my Snes (same sort of connection), let alone a Megadrive.0 -
If you have an old VCR you might be able to use it in the middle. Tune the VCR into the megadrive and then connect the VCR to the TV with SCART, or whatever it has.
To know specifically how to help we need to know what output cable your megadrive has and all the input connectors your TV has.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

Hmmm, will a DVB-T only TV tuner actually pick up an analogue modulated signal and know what to do with it ? I don't think so.
That's why I asked the exact model of TV.
You may need something like this:

Don't make any purchases yet , please report back tv model !Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

We've confirmed that OP has an analogue tuner (haven't we, OP?) So if the Megadrive is switched on, the right cable is being used, the switch on it is in the right place (if applicable), the TV should find it. If you want to try it manually it's at 36 on UHF...0
