Single Guy Buying.

So after splitting up with my partner and I'm no longer on the mortgage or deeds for that home, I'm now in a position to buy. My pre tax income is £28000 per year and have £30000 for a deposit. I have spotted a home I really like which is priced at oitro £119950. Is going for a house at this price silly for a single guy? All input welcomed.

You like it? You can afford it? What's the problem?
  • You're only looking at a 3.2 x mortgage.. I guess it might depend on the affordability scores but it doesn't look silly at all

I wouldn't say so. But it would depend on a lot more than these facts. Dependants, debts etc...

Maybe try posting on the Mortgage part of the site. And probably worth contacting a good local broker.

Doesn't sound like a silly price to me, unless you live in an area where you can still pick up small terrace houses for £30k or £40k
  • i'm buying on my own and going for one nearly twice that. Seems sensible enough as you wont be at your limit for a mortgage.

What has your gender or marital status got to do with buying a house?

To most lenders, a fair bit.

Thanks for the replys. @marksoton, no I have debts, car is paid for my only outlays are the usual everyday things like food, insurances, petrol, bills etc. I did set myself a limit on a house price of 100k but it's very hard to find one in the areas I like and with certain criterias like a driveway.

No, seems do-able. In fact it's nearly the same as what I did 9 years ago.

Check you can get a mortgage first, but you should be fine.

It doesn't look unreasonable - you'd be borrowing around £90K which is not excessive on your income, especially as you haven't got any other debt. And of course if the house is on at £120K you may be able t negotiate the price down a little!
