Car problems

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me?

Car started acting a bit funny.. shuddering between 3rd and 4th gear. Then when driving the exhaust light stared flashing and the car lost all power whilst driving at 60mph... pulled over stopped the engine and it restarted no problem. This happened about 3 times. No the exhaust light is on solid and it powers down everytime you drive it.

Its a VW Polo. Does anyone know what's likely to be wrong with it and the cost to fix it?

Thank you

What year of Polo and what engine?

You might get some guesses but for an accurate answer the codes will need to be read from the ECU.

If it's a diesel then i'd put money on diesel particulate filter blocked, caused by low mileage driving or repeated short journeys.

It's a 57 plate. It's a petrol car, but does have low mileage, under 30k. Is it a big thing that's wrong? Ty

  • When was the oil last changed and how many times since new?

    BINGO!

    M3? Check.

    Oil changes? Check.

    Lexus? Check.

    Yaris? Check.

    'On the track'? Check.

    Crappy old Toyota story? Check.

    One chance. Are you Darkmatter101?

If it was a coil pack would it be starting so easily?

My only experience with a coil pack was 700m drive to get the car home with it sounding like a bag of spanners.

    Low mileage.

    Possibly lots of short journeys?

    Could be a blocked Cat.

First thing to do is get the codes read.

If it is Cat then chuck in a bottle of CataClean.

As already mentioned it could be a lambda sensor issue.

    CataClean also cleans the Lambda
