  • Thanks Kim 13.
  • Update. Just received a text at 11.59 today (actually, two texts) saying that my offer documents will be with me in 3 to 5 days. Application done online on Monday 5 October, so that's exactly a week from application to first response.

You will probably get the docs in the morning post.:)
  • Thanks Joe. I'll update this thread when the docs arrive, and then when the account is open and ready to receive money. It looks like it will be at least 14 days between online application and account open (or longer, iif the applicant delays signing and posted back the offer doc). It seems rather long. In that time frame, there could be any number of new and enticing current account marketings. I expect these logjams at the application stage will only increase.

Opening documents arrived yesterday, 15 October, ten days after online application on 5 October. Signed acceptance posted back today (16 October) to Tesco Bank. Awaiting receipt of account number, debit card and PIN so that I can lodge funds. Looks like it might bebe around 3 weeks from online application until account operational.

Hi Hattie, they are dragging yours out.
They must be busy with lots of new customers. At least, you are getting there.
Just rechecked my applications, 2 a/cs.
Thursday 17th applied online for both.
    Letters to sign arrived 22nd
    returned same day.
Texts both 24th, saying open, and I transferred money in.

    received a/cs and pins 25th
    debit cards arrived 26th.

  • Thanks again joe134. Yes, I think there has been an influx of applicants since Tesco got rid of the monthly fee, and the Santander 123 changes.

Incidentally, I'm aiming for 2 of these Tesco accounts but thought it would look better to open one, and then open the second one after a decent interlude of a few weeks. I didn't realise that you could open 2 accounts simultaneously without "questions being askedasked". I'm impressed by your efficiency in going for 2 together. Wow!

Gosh, things are really moving. I posted my signed acceptance of terms form on Friday morningmorning. This morning (Sunday) at 8am I received a text saying that my application has been approved and that I should receive everything I need within a few days. My form could only have been received yesterday (Saturday) which means that they must be processing applications at the weekend.

I'm going to do my second account online application today.
  • Oh, can't do the second application. If the system knows you from name and date of birth, you have to log in to online banking (or phone up with security details) to open a new account. As I don't have access to online banking yet, and no password. I can't make the second application.

Given this, it's only a matter of time until rates drop, or a current account charge is introduced.

You have no idea how the world works. Competition is fierce, what you think won't happen at all. They'll do anything to get new customers. Unless all the other banks drop their offers then there's no reason to expect Tesco to drop rates or introduce a charge.
