I wasn't to certain if this should go in the mobiles or techie section, so apologies if I've posted in the wrong area.
I have a Samsung S4 GT-I9505 on a vodafone contract, which is soon coming to the end of it's fixed term period. I am also using a 3 PAYG sim card for the occasions when I have no signal on vodafone. I have decided to go it alone with the 3 sim when time is up as it will save me money and the overall coverage is much better.
I have been getting update requests seeking to update the O/S from android 4.4.2 to 5.0. My question to the phone/techie experts out there is:- as this update is being sent via the vodafone carrier, will it install a shed load of vodafone bloatware onto my phone and would it lock the phone to vodafone, rendering my 3 sim unusable?
thanks in advance

If the phone is running on Voda firmware now then the update will be more Voda branded 'stuff' as well as the update to 5.0
If the phone was unbranded and carries no Voda apps now, then the update is from Samsung and has nothing to do with Voda. So you'll get the 5.0 update and whatever 'extras' Samsung include...0 -
Thanks for the quick reply Jon 01. It's not full of all the vodafone logos like my old HTC was, but it has 2 vodafone apps pre installed, so I take it I'll be prone to their bloatware again.
Has anybody else already downloaded this update and if so, is your phone still able to be used with different networks after the update? My £2 savings total for 2007 = £92, for 2008 = £124

Flash it with the standard Samsung files?
Does the update offer anything you need or want? When my old S2 was on Gingerbread i didnt update it because the changes were a backwards step for me.
Same with my S4 on 4.2.2 Some of the updates would remove features that i use or make access to them more long winded.
Some of teh changes seem to be for the sake of it. Lets allow apps to be moved to the SD card then lets not OK lets add it again nope we removed it in the next update.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Two Voda apps, your very lucky, some bloatware is horrific! My HTC from 3 was branded beyond reason. A unlocked handset should remain unlocked, unless Voda bake locks into the firmware. Which being a Voda handset may be the case. Hopefully a MSE'er has the same handset and pops along and advisesSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0
