Bank asking me to send a copy of my credit report?

Hi all,

I am disputing a default that was put on my credit file much later than I feel it should have been.

I wrote to Halifax asking them to consider changing the date and Lloyds have written back asking me to send them my credit file.

I just wanted to check whether sending it them could cause any issues?

I am not too hopeful they will amend it because it was for an overdraft so they don't have to. However, if they do it would be due to drop of the file shortly rather than next year and I'm hoping to get a mortgage shortly so that would obviously be a massive help.

The debt was taken over by Cabot who registered a separate default at an even later date so I'm hoping that Halifax will change it to an earlier date and then Cabot will have to change their entry to be the same as the original debt. This is the only 'black mark' on my credit file and I've definitely learned my lesson!

However, I don't want to send my credit file to Lloyds if there could be any issues as a result?

Sorry for the ramble, just wanting to do what's best in the long run :)

If you wrote to Halifax, why did Lloyds write back to you?

Who is the debt originally with?

Are you saying that on your credit file you have 2 defaults issued for the same debt?

Can you take a screenshot (edit out any personal details) so we can see what is what.

Have you obtained copies of your credit report from all 3 agencies?

Halifax is part of Lloyds banking group, who I think often do credit reference file amendment queries centrally?

Are they asking for your whole report, or just the Halifax and Cabot entries in question?

Thanks Candyapple. I can't post a screen shot from work I'm afraid but hopefully I'll make more sense:

Halifax and Lloyds are now part of the same banking group and the 'credit file team' must be split I guess? I know they share offices as OH works for Lloyds.

The account was with Halifax. I went on to a DMP in late 2009 but the default wasn't registered until 31 August 2010. Then Cabot bought the debt from Halifax but the default against Cabot (for the same debt) is listed as 22 October 2010.

I know there's not much in it but if I could get the original default backdated (long shot!) then getting Cabot to remove the separate default would make a difference.

I have the report from Experian and Noddle/Call credit and they're both the same.

I just don't know whether there's any point in sending my credit file in to Lloyds or whether it could potentially cause issues - especially if OH works there and we were to apply for an employee mortgage later down the line?

They just said to send a copy of my credit report along with the letter they'd sent me - that was all that was said - not very helpful I'm afraid!

There's not much more they'll get than just doing a credit check themselves, they'll see the names of the companies that are on the file which they wouldn't see otherwise.

Given that it's Cabot who now "own" the debt, I'm of the opinion that they can't see a default registered on your account in their name (as Cabot now own it) and they want to see your copy to verify it.

Either way, I don't think they can now alter the entry, you should really dispute it with Cabot who may then refer back to Lloyyds/HBOS for clarification.
