We have had a Mini Cooper D 58 reg for 5 years , has the peugeot 1.6 hdi engine. Does 55mpg around town , must be near on 70mpg on a run. Just too small otherwise we would keep it longer. Petrol 5 door polo or new 5 door mini cooper to repace it, petrols to. It has been 100% reliable0

I've got a 2007 Mini Cooper that I've had since new, it's got 80k on the clock. I can honestly say it's the best car I've ever had. It's solid, it feels really premium inside, it's got 6 gears so it cruises on the motorway nicely, it's nice to drive. Its been very reliable, no oil leaks etc. It's never needed anything other than routine servicing. i buy the Goodyear run flats for about £120 but you can get budget runflats for much less.0

I cant believe the crap about minis. I have had several and can tell you it's a great car. I have a 1.6 cooper and it's frugal on juice if you drive it properly. It has six gears and that's how it achieves the economy with fuel. If you get any mini past 12 plate you will love it. Very reliable and the 12 plate has then oil filter right up at the top front so easy to change . Plugs and leads easy to get at as is coil pack. So don't listen to the rubbish they are truly a great car. Very capable brakes disks all round. Pulls well in all but 6th as this really is a cruise gear. Holds the road very well and steering is effort less. Go get one and you will be looking for excuses to drive it. Oh they hold their value well and if you buy a second hand one from an approved:T dealer, you get a 12 month warranty and all parts paid for if it fails mot after 12 months. None of the minis I have had burnt oil or went wrong .:A Minis are a like a virus where I live there are so many , all the drivers of minis are happy bunnies0

They do have common issues with things like power steering pumps and the gearbox fitted to early ones (I think it was the Midland box) could be troublesome.
But to honest I suspect that many of the other problems could be exaggerated by the demographic that tends to buy them.
Often viewed as a fashion accessory and given minimal maintenance.
Cars cost money to maintain that is just how it is.
If I needed a characterful little car I would consider a Mini but would ensure it was well maintained.0 -
Yes I am back after going to collect someone in my mini, I forgot to mention that they are very comfy cars.Very good build quality. You open a door and you can feel and see it's a quality car. The mini one has not got the grunt the cooper has but is no slouch. My next mini will be the 3 cylinder that goes 0 to sixty in a heartbeat. The 12 plate cooper is only 110 sqids road tax. There is a lot of difference in the pulling power of the cooper as compared to the one. The one does not have the grunt in all gears that the cooper or s model has. It's the same engine on 12 plate but programmed differently. So your mission orde3rs are get a cooper . :rotfl:Hands free phone Dab radio usb very good speakers bass wise, more little quality touches than you can think of. I am smitten by Minis and the cant afford a mini crowd can drive the fiat 500 and the other tat.Get to the showroom and test drive you will be buying a mini:rotfl:0

Wow thanks, lots of different opinions. I think I need to do some research and find a decent dealer.
I went into the Hyundai garage yesterday to talk about upgrading my I10, I quite like the new shape but only the top spec has alloy wheels. I need the 1.2 and they didnt have any for me to drive.
I wasnt impressed though, I asked about a brand new one and they couldn't order one in the colour I liked and wouldn't budge from the list price! Ive never bought new before but I assumed there would be negotioation re price
Again any advice re bargaining also welcome!!0 -

The i10 is a very popular car - there are loads where I live and some motoring journalists put them as the best small hatch for all round value - with a five year warranty too. You are unlikely to get much of a discount because dealers can sell all they get their hands on.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -

Well it must be true then. We have someone here who hasn't had a problem so everyone else who has, is obviously wrong.0 -

The ones who said tyres were £200 are.
As for other problems we need a much larger sample.0 -
A little while back four continentals ordered online from Quick fit were a bit over 300 quid. I worked in a car factory for thirty years and know you will always get some cars with problems. BMW minis are good cars and I know quite a few people that have them. The only moan I hear is no 5th tire on board . I have seen more Audi cars by the wayside waiting recovery than any other car brand. That does not mean the bulk of Audi's are not good cars.If you look around at the early minis they all look really smart still . Some 13 years old and 150k on the clock and still going well. Still fetching much more than some small cars do after 5 or 6 years old.
If the car body is no good with rust, no good spending on a terminal car, this never seems to apply to mini bodywork no matter what age.
Due to the longevity of the life of a mini , you will hear of problems with older cars. There are still so many on the road0
