warning for compensation

Hi, just received a reply from the Spanish CSA (AESA) for a 11 hour delay from Palma Mallorca using Ryanair. Using the Resolver tool is brilliant by the way. However because the flight was from Spain I had to use the Spanish authority.
Anyway the compensation was declined because we cancelled the flight and used another carrier (Jet2) So be aware the compensation only applies if you were actually on the plane when it lands having been delayed. Even though we were still delayed by over 4 hours we decided it would be better to be a few hours late than 11 hours. Though we did get a full refund for our Ryanair flights.

incorrect. read Vauban's guide
If a flight is delayed over 5 hours and you choose not to travel on it, you qualify for refund and compensation (assuming compensation applies for the reason for the delay)
Worth reading the Jet2 thread too....plenty info there about Jet2 denying valid claims
