Or, and this is not because I don't trust them with my card details, buy network credit vouchers from Game et al. Control how much is put on there.

Don't know why other people don't use the cards, so much easier.

Could be polite, but well, it's down to sheer stupidity - polite went out the window the first time I heard this story some time around the time the PS3 came out.

And there are often deals to be had, so cheaper as well.

For me it's sheer laziness - I don't keep an eye on my PS+ subscription and I will forget to buy a card when it runs out so it's easier just to take it off my debit card.

The solution to that's rather simple - do it around a memorable date. I always renewed my Xbox Live around Christmas, never changes & so didn't need to think about it & since I was usually around games shops at that time for gifts anyway it made sense. Granted that might be a hold over from years of selling PS3's but it's the simplest & most fool proof way of dealing with it. (Honestly the number of times parents would say they wouldn't have thought of that was quite funny!)

True, on the same token though I don't have anyone else that can use my playstation so if the bill comes in at £100 the missus shouts at me and I don't have a child to blame it on!

Technically, you didn't authorise the purchase, so you could report the fraudulent transaction - you'd probably have to report it to the police, but your son is too young to face any consequences for that. That would allow your card issuer to charge back the amount.

Doing so, however, would almost certainly see your PSN account locked and any other content lost. I suspect this will end with your son missing out on £120 worth of Christmas presents for his mistake.
