Compensation?

All the things I have read state that you can only claim if your flight is 3 or more hours late.... but.....
My wife and I were beginning our holidays.
Our initial flight, from a UK airport, was 90 minutes late leaving. As a result of this we missed our connection - with the same airline - at our EU airport (this flight left on schedule).
As a direct result of missing our flight the (EU) airline put us up in a hotel near the airport, on full board, and booked us on the next flight out to our African destination.
Unfortunately the next flight out didn't get us to our destination until the Tuesday - we had been scheduled to arrive on the Saturday......... 3 DAYS late for the start of our holidays!
To say we were a mite miffed would be fairly accurate. Are we due compensation?

possibly...it depends on the reason for the initial delay
read Vauban's guide - all should be answered there https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/51738880 -
Thanks for the reply........... unfortunately the thread doesn't actually answer the question:-
Our first flight was 'only' 90 minutes late. The second flight was not late at all.
Unfortunately the lateness of the first meant missing the second; all the cases quoted in the thread are predicated on your flight being 3 hours or more late. Strictly speaking neither of the flights we were (supposed to be) on were 3 hours late.
Or am I being dim here?0 -
Or am I being dim here?
Not dim, but you'll have to do a lot of work, given this question has been answered lots of times before. Try searching for "connecting flights" or "connection" in this forum.
My own guide also lists the Folkert judgements (also worth searching for), and says this:The Folkerts Judgment–This judgment from the European Court in February 2013 determined that, for passengers on "directly connecting flights" whose first leg was delayed by less than three hours but who arrived at their final destination at least three hours later than the scheduled arrival time, then compensation under the Regulation is payable.0 -
Being dim; just re-read the thing and it seems to be covered by The Folkerts Judgement.
So the struggle begins.........
