Mumsnet isn't limited by age. Anyone can post - you don't even have to be a mum, you don't have to be female. You do have to be braced for industrial strength language and some scarily tough posters. It isn't pink and fluffy.
My favourite thread ever http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/1355112-Has-my-fridge-found-religion
This is also awesome

Netmums, afaik, don't interrogate people who post to see if they qualify either, and it is more to some people's taste.

Have you any hobbies?
I've been on forums for homebrewing, soapmaking, gardening/veg growing, sewing, Ravelry forums for knitting, book forums (for A Song of Ice and Fire, and The Malazan Book of the Fallen) and parenting forums like Natural Mamas and the Cloth Nappy Tree (though those last two are probably irrelevant to you OP), even a "long hair" forum for a while!
Think about what interests you and have a google search and see what comes up? If you are just looking for something else to do on the interweb, how about learning a new language on Duolingo?
That said, I think MSE is a good general-type forum and is usually the first webpage I open!

Just to add about specialised forums, most have *off topic* sections for general chat.0

I barely have time to read the few boards I look at on MSE, let alone find extra forums (fora?) to join.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

I have a lot of time on my hands when the weather isn't very good, so I'm really looking for something as an alternative to family history, which is the only hobby I have apart from my garden.
MSE is the one I like the best thoughTreat other's how you like to be treated.

You could always give reddit a chance
Its very good for discussions, just search for subreddits that appeal to you but it will take you a while to get used to how it works as its so big! I would say reddit is at least 100 times bigger than this site  it is moderated well though unlike this place so you dont get as much arguing and ganging up like you get on here. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Another vote for Digital Spy Forums. I laugh out loud at some of the TV forums, especially the Coronation Street Suspension of Reality thread, but there are also general discussion, advice, pet, and politics forums, as well as others. Definitely worth a look.0

Also if you want to have a laugh at the comments of a previous poster on here, look for EbonyHamster on Digital Spy
Been here for a long time and don't often post

I would try Mumsnet and Gransnet. Lots of diverse topics, and some great laughs.
Mumsnet send an email each Friday with some of their most popular threads. They're hilarious. Also, Gransnet regularly email which topics are popular.0
