I'd pay whatever it was within reason of course. It's a works night out, don't be mean. The food will be terrible and obviously hugely overpriced but what you gonna do? Not go and be a party pooper?!
  • I've just sent out a spreadsheet with 5 different venues ranging from £15-40 head with menus and entertainment options.
Date is the same and I've said that majority vote wins, no PR. LOL

Am I missing something here? You had to decline originally because it was £40, yet now you are offering a £40 option? What if the majority want to go with the £40 option?

I bet the person who tried to organise it originally is feeling abit put out now.

I had presumed that the original £40 option was being included to show that if everyone wanted it then it would be the place? I don't know though, just guessing

    I've been Money Tipped!
Yup. I included it in case people do want to spend that much, but the general consensus around the staff room is that they don't. However, the same venue is offering a buffet at £15/head along with the same entertainment. So I've popped that on along with several other pubs offering dj's and/or dancing or Xmas carols.

The usual place that we go to, does fantastic food, but no entertainment, so we' re just going for different options this year.

And if the majority do go for the £40 (39.50) option, then I'll suck it up. No noses out of joint, they just wanted to get a move on, but it turns out most of the places haven't set up their Xmas booking systems yet anyway.

I'm not sure how any of that would change the Xmas party options available to the OP's colleagues ...

    !

Because I am just amazed that a FE tutor has got quite so much time to get quite so embroiled in the Xmas party situation, that is all.

    Ah, I see.

Perhaps she does most of the research and preparation in her own time, and then sends out emails/spreadsheets with the options?

I've known quite a few office 'social co-ordinators' who work that way.

I do doff my hat to those who are willing to take the task on!

I believe the OP has said that she only works part time.

I got the invite to my work Christmas party yesterday - £54! Do I win? :D

Despite being a DINK, I have declined. As I did last year when it was £50. I have better things to spend money on than an evening with colleagues.

This year I have other plans on that night anyway, but last year I did reply to the organiser saying it's a little out of my budget. She replied that people could pay in instalments. Missing the point!

We organise a lunch out for our office, it costs about £25 a head without drinks. Work gives us permission to take an extended lunch break and our immediate manager gives us permission to not go back to work after. Some people choose to stay in town after and have a drink, go to a club or whatever, but I go home as my animals are waiting for their tea and I'm not a big drinker (I can make a pint of decent ale last all evening!) plus I need to be able to get up in the morning as usual - to do the animals :) Lie-ins and hangovers are out if you have dependants! If people want to pay £50 that's their choice, but it all ends up down the toilet in the end. Fifty pounds would feed me all month and since Christmas isn't top of my list of enjoyable events, I don't actually care much if I don't go out at all for it.

when i worked for a local council the 'Christmas' do took place in an Indian restaurant, with no reference to Christmas at all, in case we upset the two Muslim colleagues ... who thought it was absolutely ludicrous and were very embarrassed ... :(

We have several times had our do in an Indian restaurant...though only because we voted for it!

I'd personally rather have a decent curry than an inferior roast & soggy sprouts which i know full well i could cook much better

and the veggie options are better
