Harveys - Recliner Chair Broken. 2 years old.

Hi,

My 85 year old mother-in-law bought herself a recliner arm chair from Harveys 2 years ago.

Recently the plastic lever that is used to activate the reclining mechanism broke off in her hand.

Before I approach Harveys asking them to repair or replace the chair I'd like to check on my mother-in-law's rights.

I assume any reasonable person would expect a £500 arm chair to last more than 2 years and as this has failed it can be regarded as unfit for purpose.

The chair was paid for using a credit card rather than a debit card so I assume if I get the brush off from Harveys it might be easier to go after the credit card company?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Over 6 months the onus is on the buyer to prove that any fault is inherent to manufacture. Speak to Harveys but it's likely they'll ask you to get an expert report showing that this is a manufacturing fault rather than wear & tear or mis/overuse.
