Firstly, can he get to where the trap is? Make sure it's where you hear him.

I would put some water up there, the last thing you want is him dying, not just because it's horrible but if he does and gets infested with maggots etc, urgh!

Maybe try fruit etc in the trap which smells nicer to coax him. Some nesting stuff in the box aswell. Then check it on a morning to see if he's gone for a snuggle

Next option going up and searching for him.
One day I might be more organised...........

I came *THIS* close to going to sleep in a hotel last night.
Surely he would come out to seek water? Last thing i want is him getting comfy in there. WOuld he be able to chew through plastic water pipes?
As for going up to look he is between the ceiling of my bedroom and the floor of DS room which is above, the house is on 3 storeys. I am slim but I will not fit in there. LOL ;)We have had a floorboard up. He got in through an existing hole but only a small hole.

I do not like pets very much, and a lot less now

Hampsters are originally semi-dessert animals, so Harry can probably survive from condensation or a drip from a tap.

Hi Sarah, was hoping to read that Harry had returned  just asked my son if he has any ideas, and he suggested putting some millet in the trap, our last hamsters absolutely loved the stuff. Failing that, he says cut a hole in the ceiling :rotfl:
    Good luck today

The way I felt last night the only hole will be one made by a shotgun.

Hamster have the amazing ability to last a long long time.

One of my friends had a hamster years and years ago. She had it for about 4 months when one day they found the door open and poor little hamster had gone! They placed humane traps and did everything but never found him. They couldnt hear him, all food placed down was left un touched and they realised they had lost the poor little hamster :(

A year and a half later my friends brother walked into his room to find the hamster sat on his bed!

A year and a half that hamster lived in the house and survived! As you can imagine we were rather shocked...

The hamster then went onto to live for a further year and died at a grand old age of over 3 years :)

Best of luck finding Harry and keep us updated!!

DS's floor is now minus a floorboard. I am having some wine tonight so hopefully i will sleep better;)
Listening to radio 4 on my headphones didnt work - a comedy show was on and it was too funny.
Harry's favourite - a huge peanut in its shell, is in among the food in the humane trap under the floor.

ALl it takes to catch a hamster is an insomniac 7 year old son who clearly doesn't go to sleep when you take him to bed.
He sat in his bedroom watching the floor for Harry and caught him just like that.
Flippin hamster! GRR. It has to go and be aLL sort of cute now, stuffing itself with food and jumping around the cage.

    Yay harry is back lol

Just make sure the cage is both hamster and child proof (putting the cage in one of those big plastic crates might help lol)
