Sister harassed and intimidated by Irish gipsies in Blackpool

Let's face it, people can scam you no matter what their race.
However, certain ethnic groups can do the " the curse" thing. And we all know who they are.
That just means that some are mugs and think of their culture as having a means to "curse" us.
Rubbish. And they know it, but some people are taken in by it sadly.
That is why they still do it.
If I tried to sell a hot dog on the street without a licence, and a H+S certificate and all the rest of it I would be in the clink sharpish. So go figure.
Chancers abound.0 -

I have taken it as advice for in the event that I (ever) chose to go there; that should an Irish member of the gypsy community approach me, I may benefit from being mindful of the OP's sister's unfortunate experience.
Stop waving the racist banner - you do a disservice to real incidence of racism in the same way that the ambulance chasers do damage to the perception of genuine claims for injury.dirty_magic wrote: »It's just a description to identify them. That way if a gipsy with an Irish accent approaches anyone here on Blackpool seafront we've all been warned.
There was an attempted kidnapping here a while ago by some black men in a dark coloured car, can't remember what make of car, and the child's father came forward to try to catch them. People commented that it was racist to mention the race of the perpetrators, but how else was he supposed to describe them? No-one said he shouldn't have mentioned the make and colour of the car!
It's complete madness that you can't even describe the perpetrator of a crime without being called racist. The OP said Irish gipsy because it was an Irish gipsy, and if this helps to identify them and stop them being a nuisance to others then that's a good thing IMO.
Well said Viki and DM. :T
I do think such knee jerk 'racist' accusations are very rude, and are absolutely unnecessary. In addition, I believe that in the vast majority of cases, the person being accused of racism is far from racist. The PC sh-t stirrers always pop up though don't they!? Hopefully the OP will ignore the baiting.
I applaud the OP for putting this thread on, as it is serving as a warning to people. People who may otherwise have been conned by these people. Hopefully, the troublemakers and stirrers will stop their nonsense, and the silly 'racist' accusations, so the thread doesn't get deleted.0 -

Or how long the thread will last.
Just like the various Muslim/islam threads which aren't racist but still the handwringing lefties on here feel the need to report anyone who dares criticise THAT incompatible ideology...0 -

Because, with no thanks to people like you, white people are still the vast majority in this country. It therefore goes without saying.
It would be like saying "a black hackney cab". Most are black, so you only need to differentiate when it's white or whatever.0 -
Moral of the story - never go to Blackpool0

There will be more of this as the years go on. Spotted Romanian Gypsies around several towns where I live trying to flog their lucky heather... I personally ignore them, and the Romania's selling The Big Issue!0

You're right there. Although, where I live, certain people still seem to want to go there. I can't fathom it at all, the place is a dump. That said, they're the type of people to wear tracksuits to all occasions and drink buckfast, must be a demographic thing...0 -
Yep...that sort of thing (ie the heather scam) is still going on. Its not that long since I was last approached by one of them.
The tactics are the same worldwide to deal with them - be it sellers of bread rolls in Turkey (who have also "had a go") or tinkers here = say "no thank you" firmly, whilst barely looking at them and walk on firmly. In this country one "no" works, in some other countries you have to say it several times and maybe even be rude and "tell them where to go" if they keep pretending to be too deaf to hear the word.
In this country though - I've always found one firm "No" and walk on works first time.0 -
Interesting. I have faint memories of those lucky heather sellers who used to infest Regent Street: they would swarm all over me although I never bought anything. I was weak and tired: I used to work shifts. When I gave up working nights and became healthier and stronger, they ignored me.
I had not seen any of those crepe paper and tinfoil flower sellers for ages, until two days ago. Once again they ignored me: they seemed to be scanning the crowds for suitable victims. It is the same with face-to-face fundraiser or chuggers: they look for the easy marks.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

That's not to say the actions of the women were defensible.
Doesn't stop the thread title being blatantly racist though.
Rubbish
You might as well say it's sexist , because it states woman
Anyway since when we're people from Blackpool considered a race
