Too expensive for the specs you mentioned.

This might be a good option to consider
    Intel® Core™ i3-4160Intel, HD Graphics 4400, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB: £285.60

Still £35 dearer than the Lenovo, which can be spent on upgrading the memory to 8gb with cash left over for a bottle of Rum (nod to Rum Rat). The lenovo also includes a card reader where it's an optional extra on the HP.

You shouldnt be paying over £200 for an ex business machine - especially for just the base unit

That's crackers IMHO, he will have paid around £50 a piece for them
Do they come with office suite ?

Adding to the above example, one can use the saving to purchase a Lenovo or ACER extended warranty for three years or more.

acerdirect is not ACER, but agreed, not worth £400.

Thanks for clarifying to the OP that acerdirect isn't acer per se.

Not sure I mixed Acer and Acerdirect up, my only mentio in the OP was the computer offered, an Acer. None of my posts mention Acerdirect.

Thanks for the link but that product is "sold out".

I did not obtain the actual model from the computer shop, how did you arrive at that model?

Just another alternative to choose from. Regardless of the Rum you mentioned ;)
    Are you sure about that?
It doesn't mention about anything about a card reader on the specs with the Lenovo? you sure about that?

It isn't an ex business machine, it is brand new and will be supplied with Windows 7 Professional, I was told the only way you can get Windows 7 is via Professional.

I don't think it comes with any software, I will, hopefully be installing my own Word 2000.

No it was me who mentioned acer direct, I would not buy that model if I were you. The best bet in my opinion would be the I3 powered lenovo and add an extra 4gb ram (about £20) as it's much more powerful than the acer.

Yep, I'm sure about the lenovo as I've ordered them before.

The also come with W7 pro already installed, on HDD W7 recovery partition and a set of W8.1 pro install DVDs.

You can get it here for £270. But it's not the best.

I doubt very much that a base unit with those spec's, is brand new. £400 is far too expensive, please check all the options you have been given here and you can be certain of getting something worthwhile.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
