Friday 2nd October - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!

So be proud of those small steps, they really important!

  • Good morning everyone - hope nobody minds me starting us off today. Hope you're all doing ok (and that I haven't cross posted).
I'm pleased to have made it through another week, although I can't believe how fast time is slipping by at the moment... It's all a bit of a blur when things are non stop. I feel pretty tired today but I am determined not to have to bring too much work home with me for the weekend so planning a full day at work.
Here's my list of small things.
    :p check banking
    :p PAD
:p No heating - dd is sitting with her coat on at the moment, but it's going to be quite warm later.
:p get dh a doctors appointment
    :p NSD
    :p meals from stores
:p 15 mins housework and declutter
    :p washing
    :p relax
:p get ds to football training
I think that's it for me for now. Hope everyone has a good day ahead.

    Good morning CCL

Thanks for the start! It's Friday and the weekend looms large. I simply can't wait for the break. We have very light duties this weekend 1 school event to attend only and that is it. I plan to try and rest as much as I possibly can.

This morning we used up a pack of sandwich buns from the YS stash in the freezer as we'd run out of sliced bread. We only paid about 24p instead of the pack price of £1.

OH will be taking jacket potato and chilli leftovers and I've done my son's lunchbox.

Not much to report. Have another tranche of DDS leaving the account today hopefully they will all be correct. For example this is the first month First Utility are supposed to be doing variable direct debit instead of the fixed sum we were paying back...let's see...I know what Dawn will say to me anyway :)

Ziggy - didn't see a check in from you yesterday, unusual? Hope all is well.

    Bob

  • Hi everyone :)

Today I am checking my banking, updating my spreadsheet and then when home from work searching for more stuff to stick on ebay as I made 50 quid yesterday on old clothing!

    Morning all :)
Well Bob, if FU don't do what they are supposed to do (and after all why should they? They haven't so far :p) you know what to do, don't you :rotfl: Seriously, hope you get a good rest this weekend. That goes for CCL too (and thanks for the start BTW)!

    List for today:
Found enough blueberries and raspberries to go with my breakfast porridge (done)
    Check banks Done
Visit garden centre today (it is the cheapest place to get the small bales of straw I use for my chickens). From Monday they have their nightmare 'Christmas wonderland' going on (it is so awful, noisy and expensive that I wonder why anyone goes there ) and I definitely want to avoid going then, so today it must be. I will stock up on straw, and buy a few winter pansy plants to brighten up the pots in the front garden, and some hyacinth bulbs to grow in vases indoors :) So not a NSD, but a planned spend, and it won't be much :)Done, bought some hyacinth bulbs, a big bag of daffodil bulbs, some pansies, garlic and some kale and cabbage plants, as well as the chickens' straw :)
Food from stores and garden - OH is away for a couple of days so there is only me Done, used some things up :)
    Groom and train pup Done
Take him for a little walk later to practice walking on his lead Walked to the pet shop (well, I carried him some of the way as he was a bit scared of all the traffic in town) to buy more puppy training pads. He made quite a few new friends :) Unfortunately it didn't wear him out as much as I thought it would, as I have had to rescue the kitchen towel, the oven gloves, my slippers and the doorstop by torchlight from the garden :rotfl:
Any surveys that are available Done a few for onepoll
    Check FPL Done
Take a few items to sales unit to fill in gaps and make it look fresh :)Done, several more things gone, so I will need to pop along with some more tomorrow. I have got down and cleaned a big stained glass panel to display in the window, but can't get it down there without OH's help - so that will have to wait till Monday
Try to catch neighbour to give her some eggs :)No, she seems to have been out all day again

Pup has dragged off the dog shaped fabric doorstop thing that is bigger and much heavier than him, and is currently sleeping off the effort involved, cuddled up to the doorstop :rotfl: He has also pulled some of the clean, dry washing out of the laundry basket so I had better go and sort that out.

Hope you all have a good day :)

Oops you have reminded me, Chrysanthemum, I must put an item on ebay as well! Didn't get to this today

Did some work in the garden as it was a nice afternoon. Planted daffodil bulbs in the border, and planted up a hanging basket that I already had with pansy plants which cost about £2, instead of buying a basket ready planted with pansies for £14.99

    Morning DFW-Ninjas,

    Thanks for the starter CCL.

After a busy day today is going to be slightly more relaxed and fun-centred.

Won a £5 Amazon voucher yesterday and am starting a wee savings pot on Amazon for December-Fest.

    Debt-Free Nillionaire Month 4:

    * Pay into savings for Australia 2016 trip. Done. Increased savings pot by 4900%! :rotfl:

    * Check Finances. Done

    * Check broadband allowance. Done. Got loads left. Will stream a film later.

    * It is foggy out. Will take some photos later for pleasure.

    * Do i-Say and GfK surveys. Done.

    * Use Ancestry subscription. There is a membership fee but it's a cheaper habit that going to the yacht club like the old me used to.

    * List things on eBay and local Facebook selling page.

    * May quickly tidy the front garden. Looks horrendous as OH had been too ill to work in it for a couple of weeks and the weather we've had this Summer has been terrible. Ended up spending two hours outside. The front garden was straightforward but the back garden was an awful mess. The rambling roses had not only rambled, but hiked and mounted a full-blown expedition. Found two potatoes when I raked the raised bed and picked the last of the sweet peas for indoors. Also put rubber front doormat in washing machine.

    * Attempt to dry Nigella seeds to save for next year. Done.

    * Look at switching bank account for a reward.

    * Pay rent and give OH food money. Done.

    * Stream a £2.49 film tonight from entertainment budget.

    * Hope postie brings something nice.

    * Must check passports are still in date. Been going to do this for days! Done.

    Catch you later folks.

Morning everybody, hope you are all well and doing good. Sorry it's been about a month since I've been on here but I've been very busy sorting things out, having a baby and not having much sleep!

I'm still here though and I'm still paying off debts and decreasing them when I can. I've now paid off my credit cards so I have £0 on all three of them and still paying my monthly payments off of my loan.

    Jobs for today:
    * Banking as SO needs to give me money for bills.
    * Put money from above in bank and transfer over to savings as I do not want to spend it. I am on maternity so I want a little pot of money should I need it in a few months where I'll have minimal amount.
    * take out chicken to cook later
    * Put petrol in the car but only about £20 as I don't need extra for work
    * Make a shopping list for next week
    * Keep sorting out kitchen for things I don't need, ready for our move. I don't want to be taking things that we don't really need.
    * sell things from list above and recycle/giveaway for free anything that can't be sold.

    Have a great Friday everyone!
Former Debt free wannabe. Now trying to save for a rainy day!
