This has caused me some serious second guessing.

When I will be texting to someone and suddenly wonder why they stopped replying.

I will get angry at them and sometimes delete their number only to get a message a day later.

I know it (sometimes) isnt they just didnt send the message because Ive had it where I will send a message and Ill even get an old message sent again from a few days ago. I think it's a problem with my phone receiving messages from newer smarthpones, but that would account for all messages I get from ppl these days, like the old girl can't handle parlaying with the newer young phones.

Now sometimes ppl really won't respond but it has caused mayhem in my mind now never knowing if someone isn't responding or if my phone isn't working and it seems really desperate if Im alwyas asking 'did you reply or you or not'; a social catastrophy!

My phone is around 10 years old to be fair. and the battery only lasts around a few hours before needing a recharge. So I guess I should get a new one.

Im loath to spend money on things just cos of 'fashion'. Ppl always make fun of my phone just cos it isnt a wizz bang smarthpone which would crack if you cough on it. i guess being faulty is justificaiton enough to finally change it :).

I wondered if this is a common thing and if tehre is some fix for it or if it is faulty hardware. Guess no1 can know. but wanted to check first in case its a common thing.

If there is no obvious solution I will just get another cheapo tenner phone from tescos.

Cleared the memory? SIL had an old brick for about 12 years. Every single message anyone had sent her in that time was stored in the phone and unread.

Never ever read a text message.

By deleting the old texts...a 10 year old handset won't have much memory.
But you don't need a new phone, just a new battery-what use is a phone that dies every few hours?
It's not any kind of 'technology clash': SMS texts use the same technology as they have done for the last ten years or more. More likely to be a network or local mast issue.

Switch on delivery reports and that will tell you that message has arrived on their handset.

Otherwise, get a basic smartphone and that'll offer viber / whatsapp which show when delivered.

All of the above don't guarantee the person actually reads the messages.

^I am on giff gaff. Hmm that's interesting since giff gaff is on the O2 network also.

Well @macman how can you be so sure it isn't a hardware issue?

Being familiar with PC technology you can never rule out hardware faults unless you have a spare to check against.

Of course it's preferable not to be spending willy nilly, but it's important to be able to test such things cos how would I ever be sure? and this has been a consistent issue for around six months or more now.

Also a new battery will probably be a similar price to a new phone Im guessing (I see a phone Id be interested in between 10-15 quid).

EDIT: Ah I see it's only 2.99 on ebay for a new battery.

Perhaps I'll try a new sim provider and new battery.
