I use the water I've just done the dishes in to wash and clean the bin.

It's a fair point though.

There is no point in recycling if we continue to infest this planet, depleting the natural resources and wiping out all the other species (except for the ones we breed solely to eat).

Overpopulation is the big issue. Halve the population and all the "green" issues go away!

But of course it's easier to ban carrier bags, isn't it.

I still reckon that the 5p charge should also apply to "bags for life". When you buy them, they're "single use" bags. You might not use them again. If you do, then you claim your 5p back. Simple.:D

Bags for life must have a cost of at least 5p anyway on their first use as you say, replacement bags can be free. So it's gone into the bottom of the wardrobe until I need to carry a suit to the dry-cleaners. 5p extra on a £200 (in the sale) suit is negligible really.


Maybe I could walk into a tailors or another dept store with a Debenhams branded suit carrier swinging in one hand and see if they offer to replace it with their own at no cost?


If I was out to buy say, shirts, then any clean carrier bag will do and can be folded into a jacket pocket.
