  • I suppose the question is even if it cost the OP £40 how much did they save using the PTS

As with the above service 'For other 08 numbers, we will use an alternate number to route your call. Alternate numbers are sourced from publicly available sources. We cannot accept responsibility for the accuracy or quality of any alternative numbers used by the app/service, as we can't manually check every one. Use of WeQ4U is therefore entirely at your own risk.'

In short - if there isn't an alternative number, it won't work at all.
Sipgate is around 2p/min (from memory, it's been a while) there are other similar services out there.

Calls to 084 and 087 numbers incur an Access Charge paid to the benefit of the caller's landline or mobile provider for connecting and conveying the call and a Service Charge paid to the benefit of the called party and their telecoms provider for provision of the chargeable service that was accessed.

The Service Charge for 084 numbers is up to 7p per minute, and for 087 numbers is up to 13p per minute.

If you are paying 2p per minute for calls to these numbers you are with a very generous provider. They are paying out the Service Charge without asking you to pay for it.

Presumably they will be receiving one of these tiny_url.com/OfcomLetter at some point?

I checked, as I wasn't sure of my memory.

    0845 is 3p/min, 0844 is 5p.

I find it very useful, as I can use my existing phone, on wifi, with a sip app to make and receive calls very cheaply in comparison to mobile.
Can anyone find cheaper solutions that require very limited inputs and work for 0845/... numbers that do not have alternatives?

It seems that a large part of the NHS is still using expensive 0844, 0845 and 0870 numbers in breach of Department of Health regulations.

    http://www.google.com/search?num=100&q=site:nhs.uk+0870

The vast majority of those are also operating in breach of Ofcom regulations by failing to declare the Service Charge.
    http://www.google.com/search?num=100&q=site:nhs.uk+"per+minute"+"access+charge"
The list of organisations correctly declaring the Service Charge is very much shorter than the list of users of expensive 084 and 087 numbers.

Details on some of those web sites are out of date and a search for the actual premises comes up with a number normally inclusive in call packages. ie 01, 02, 03

Most 0845 number can be accessed by dialling 0345 instead which is Mobile friendly and comes out of your minutes. Have you tried it in this case? originally posted by Gary_zero

Not what I meant. Simply swap the 8 for a 3 ie 0845.... becomes 0345.... which is include in your mobile minutes. Simple

I also use the ambulance patient transport service, I don't mind at all paying the call cost as the service is free and it would cost a considerable sum to pay for taxis there and back
