It would be interesting to hear from anyone who has been transported from say Scotland to the south, how they got on which would probably cost in excess of £1000. I think you can also claim for temporary accomodation too if required.
"how will you know how much it's going to cost" - ask for an estimate but if you are stuck you don't have much choice but to pay up do you?
I've had to be recovered from Birmingham to Scotland once, a few years ago. I think it was something in the order of £500 or so, but there was no quibble over it. Paid by credit card, sent off the claim when I got home, had the cheque banked before my credit card statement arrived (and got a fair few clubcard points out of the deal as well, as I used my Tesco credit card
