Kids with travel sickness

What is the reason you were given for not putting her car seat in the front?
My daughter has always been in the front with me, in both her rear and front-facing seats, just with the airbag turned off. I had the car seats fit by the shop, then had them checked at the local dealer for my car and our local police station. Everyone was fine with them being in the front.
I have been using the Cybex Pallas seat for the past few years. It came with the impact cushion which I used until it no longer fit round her.0 -
My son has travelled in the front since we realised he was travel sick. You will need travel sickness tablets for other modes of transport as well though. He takes them if we go on the high speed train to London or on a plane. I second the cinnarizine but I've just checked the packet (Stugeron is the name from the chemist) and it says for age 5 and over.0

Make sure the car is thoroughly aired out before you start - I found the stale air made me feel bad before we'd even started moving! It still does...0

I've had it for years and until I tried powdered ginger [[available in health food shops in capsules], the only remedy for it was to sleep or to close my eyes if I couldn't seewhere I was going.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Can you find her a car seat which does fit safely and securely in the middle with the baby seat next to it? Can you boost her higher and have whoever is in the passenger seat scoot sideways so she can see better from the left? I found going to sleep was a good escape from travel sickness.
Can you change your driving to take corners and curves very gently.
Glasses with one blacked out lens are an interesting concept and would be easy enough to improvise to try - noting the warning about long lengths of time and children, but I prefer the concept to drugs for short trips.

I have always suffered, but I am much better as an adult.
I can tell you travel sickness makes you feel REALLY ill, so personally, I would put your daughter in the front, or find another option for the baby so she can stay in the middle. It's really not much fun!
I always wear travel bands when I'm not driving, on a plane, boat etc. Cold water, fresh air from an open window and mints also help a lot.
Obviously no reading, screens etc.
Also try to avoid travelling with her on an empty stomach. Carbs are ideal before a journey or during: soft white bread & hula hoops are perfect.
The only times either of my kids have been travel sick is when they've eaten fruit with breakfast, before a journey. Raspberries were the worst trigger; no idea why!0 -
After my DD was spectacularly sick all over me on a trip in France, I have looked at various remedies.
The one I was recommended by a friend who is a nurse and doesn't involve taking any medication is sitting her on a newspaper.
I know it sounds crazy but there is something in the newspaper (carbon?) that stabilises her and stops her being sick.
I then periodically pass back bread sticks to keep her tummy settled.
Worth a try!0 -
second the newspaper! I just got my thunder stolen there.
Truly, it works.0 -
Couldn't you put her in the front seat?Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0

Hi everyone
The guidance about not putting a group 2/3 car seat in the front is on the which website saying Vauxhall doesn't approve the use of them in the front seat

What we have decided to do is buy the same car seat in isofix form and we will isofix her into the middle. Baby will be in a base which can strap in with the seatbelt. We bought a base that can fix isofix or with the belt as our previous car didn't have isofix. It was fitted with seat belt and was very solid and secure so we're going to try out the two seas next to each other and hopefully we'll have our solution!x0
