Never had an iphone and always been on PAYG but need to make a change for a new job.

Looking for an iphone - can be 4, 5, 6

pay monthly contract
min 500 mins free calls to any network per month
min 200 free texts per month
will use phone for emails and some web browsing but not gaming or vids.

Any advice on phone and contract please?

Has anyone used a site like mobiles dot co dot uk for cash back and if so is it quite clear how to get your CB or is it a series of hoops and jumps?

Many thanks

much cheaper and better phone contracts out there than the iPhone.

for such low usage you should look to buy a phone outright and get a sim only contract, or a PAYG sim that gives bundles of minutes / tests

The iPhone 5 (inc 5c and 5s) is getting long in the tooth... The 6S is a better bet for longer term support.

Buying direct from Apple (on finance if necessary) has the advantage of there being only one party to deal with if there is an issue. Often on here you will read of disputes involving shops/networks/manufacturer. A SIM free, un-locked, phone directly from Apple has at least EU wide support, possibly for 2 years although in the UK they suggest one year. A friend took her UK purchased iPad to an Apple Store in Spain when it was over 1 year old and had a service exchange for a new one, no issue or hassle at all.

As others have said, look at 30 day SIM only contracts, the networks are changing due to 4G rollout and possible amalgating of neworks (3 and O2) which will involve site changes. If your coverage worsens you can switch fairly easily.

You didn't mention data use, a smartphone loves to eat data, what is the point of having the world in the palm of your hand with 4G at tens of Mb/s if you aren't going to use it? I would suggest a minimum of 4GB/month.

BTW, an iPhone 4 won't provide 4G, the iPhone 5 will work 4G on EE and Three, but not the bands used by O2 and Vodafone for 4G. The iPhone 5 has limited bands for future expansion of 4G. The later iPhones have much improved band coverage
