This thread is about the small money saving efforts we all can make each day. When we start our debt free journey we focus on the big things. Cancelling the sky subscription. Cutting up the credit cards. But along the way it is the little things we can do every day that keep us on track and making progress. Whether you are leaving the cards at home and shopping cash only. Making lists to go to the supermarket. Keeping food waste to zero. Post your lists here and help others get good ideas of small things to do daily.

New consumer rights start today:
"Anyone who buys faulty goods will be entitled to a full refund for up to 30 days after the purchase. There will also be new protection for people who buy digital content. And the Act also covers second-hand goods, when bought through a retailer. People buying services - like a garage repair or a haircut - will also have stronger rights.Under the new Act, providers who do not carry out the work with reasonable care, as agreed with the consumer, will be obliged to put things right. Or they may have to give some money back."

Morning DFW-Ninjas,
Thanks for the starter Jonno.
It's been an interesting working week. Enjoyed it; stayed sane; earned a wage!
I am continuing with my big lifestyle changes which will hopefully benefit my health and my wallet but will also make today very busy! :eek:
* Leaving most of my Life Admin to weekends.
* No more checking Facebook and emails 100 times a day.
* Less multi-tasking.
* More time off the internet.
* Less pressurising myself.
* More relaxation.
* More belief in myself.
* Giving myself permission to say "no".
Debt-Free Nillionaire Month 4:
* Pay into savings for Australia 2016 trip. Tomorrow is payday.
* Check Finances. Done
* Deal with the ongoing problem of my missing P45. Done
* Find out where GfK Media surveys £5 voucher has got to. Done
* Read meters and upload readings to energy website. Done
* Check broadband allowance. Done
* Update timesheet. Done
* Call Council to check Council Tax amount due. They've given me three different figures in 3 days! Done. Nothing due this month!
* It is foggy out. Incentive to stay away from the village shop. Done
* Re-jig budget now that October is here. Done
* Found three mini tupperware boxes of left over chilli in the freezer. This will make an instant lunch for us today. Done
* Claim Working Tax Credits. Done
* Check all loyalty points. Done
* Do i-Say surveys. Done
* May have to go to Jobcentre to collect a form they promised to send me and haven't. Done
* Update Finances Spreadsheet having been very good and not obsessive about it. Done
* Use Ancestry subscription. There is a membership fee but it's a cheaper habit that going to the yacht club like the old me used to.
* Sort out the rucksack I take to work. It's full of cr*p! Not efficient at all! Done
* Write a list of what needs to go on eBay. OH has some stuff to go I think. Look at whether there's a local Facebook selling page. Done
* May quickly tidy the front garden. Looks horrendous. Tomorrow
* Look at switching bank account for a reward. Tomorrow
* Do i-Say surveys. Done.
Catch you later folks.

Morning all

Thanks for the start Jonno
You can use pears more or less the same as you can apples Twiggy
I didn't post yesterday as I looked after baby GD all day and therefore didn't get much done! Went out for a Chinese in the evening which was not MSE, but on the other hand it was OH's birthday, so decided on a treat. Went to a local place so we could walk there and back and both have a drink (though only one glass of wine for me and 2 small beers for him, we are not big drinkers these days!) Had a nice chat with the Chinese waitress as they weren't busy.
List for today:
Sort out new food mountain which I seem to have acquired :eek: I haven't done a big shop or anything (for ages), this is stuff that we have grown or made. OH is going away for a couple of days tonight and I had thought he was going tomorrow, so need to do something with the giant stew and the loaf of bread that I made yesterday, plus other bits in the fridge, larder, or just hanging about. The freezers are bursting, but I can see if I can rejig (again :eek:) Thankfully OH is taking with him the rest of the fish that he caught yesterday on his birthday fishing trip, having already given a couple to DD2 :T Fish all gone, we ate most of the stew before OH went (and he had bread with his), I had some raspberries and apple with my breakfast porridge and salad bits with lunch :T
Clean up sink area so OH can clean the remaining fish (done)
Load of washing and dry it outside Done
Wash puppy's undercarriage (I will spare you the details!) Done
Water little trees in garden as it has been warm and dry for quite a while Done
Clean up area around chicken run while dry Done
Sort out second huge vat of ripening tomatoes and roast the load I did yesterday for sauce / soup base Done, need to put it through the mouli now
HM meals from stores (obviously!) Done, NSD
Give neighbour a few eggs (she saves salad trimmings from her sandwich business for the chickens, so I give her a few eggs when I have some to spare
) Not done as I haven't seen her, hopefully tomorrow
Any surveys that are available Done a couple for onepoll
FPL Done
Tidy up downstairs after baby GD's depredations yesterday :rotfl: OH helped with this
Go to sales unit as it is money day :T I will walk for free exercise / save fuel
Done, and paid in cheque at the bank on the way home
OK, I had better get on with some of it. Thank goodness it is another nice day

Morning folks,
Thanks to jonno for starting us off
Hugs to anyone who needs them... ah what the hell, hugs to all!!!
ccl - glad that your OH made it out of bed yesterday. I don't know if you drive/have a car but I often found that while my OH was ill that he could be tempted by a pleasant drive out as he wouldn't be "out" IYSWIM.
I was a saint yesterday. No booze (woohoo!) and did all the upholstery hoovering that I wanted to. Unfortunately all the electric tripped half way through cooking dinner and when I turned them back on, discovered that the oven element had failed.
Also in other bad news, OH's nan has had a big set back again. They aren't sure if she's got it in her to keep going really...
OH and m-I-l very sad. Just trying to be there for everyone.
Today's list:- Register broken oven with letting agent - done
- Charge phone in work - done
- B/D from stores. Meeting OH for lunch. - nice little lunch and paid for by the "fun fund"
- No booze (will be 5 days in a row! woohoo!)
- Vax rugs/carpet in living room
- Keep sorting shopping list for weekend
- Book train tickets to London (so proud of OH for getting the train as it terrifies him. He's even agreed to get on the tube which is a MASSIVE deal for him). Not really MSE but will be a horrendous drive.
- Read up on how I use the Tesco Orchard voucher that I've received. I signed up after Ally mentioned it. Apparently I have to buy some exotic fruit and apparently people can find such items very daunting. Hahahaha, can't say I feel daunted by figs, passion fruit or the like but I def want some free fruit.
have a good one all

Morning all,
Have swapped my list around today as had intended a lovely gardening morning, but it was such thick fog when I got up, I decided to tackle all my indoor jobs before lunch & wait for the sun to come up. So here are the money-saving bits:
*Tiny bit of new cat food mixed with last night's wasted food to trick Cat into eating it. He'd had a night on the tiles, so he fell for it. Result!
*Sorted through my tomato collection (ranging from Greener than a Green Thing at the National Festival of Green to juicy ripe & red). Skinned & blitzed up 1lb for mr f's chilli making tomorrow, & chopped another 1lb for tomato soup. All the others sealed up in a big brown paper carrier bag & left for ripening.
*Dinner is a use-it-up affair tonight. Tomato soup followed by frittata (home grown courgettes, cooked potatoes, herbs, etc) & salad (home grown lettuce, spring onions basil & more tomatoes - yay!) Tomato soup also took care of most of an old bag of OOD skimmed milk powder.
*Froze more blackberries.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch. mr f is on an away-day in another county but wants to take a packed lunch rather than end up buying something in a cafe or pub. Can't fault him.
*Did a big Ipsos survey for 250 points, which put me over the cash-in limit, so claimed another £10 John Lewis voucher. My credit card points go towards these too, so I like to get a little stash together to help with replacing household items/tech, etc.
*Caught up with other surveys until the mood deserted me.
*PAD'd £1.86 into the Car Fund (a skim to the nearest round number from current account). I'm not managing to do this every day, it just isn't possible, but I do think of it each day & look for opportunities for a payment, however small. I'm finding that it's keeping me focused on our savings target. Basically the deal with the car is that we are hoping not to have to change it until March 2017. We currently have no debt except our mortgage. (Debt-free since May 2011, although pre-LBM, we were shockers!) We won't be able to buy a new car outright, so will need to access some form of loan. Our aim is to save as much as possible before then, so as to maximize our cash deposit & minimize what we need to borrow. So it's a DFW project.......just a sort of future one, if that makes sense.
Still to do:
Well, the sun has now come out so it looks as though I'm on for my lovely gardening afternoon. Cat has made it off the sofa so will have some company too, as he's quite chatty, so...
*Free fresh air & exercise clearing old summer pots & replanting with daffodil bulbs.
*Do meal plans. Will prioritize what's already in the freezer as it's rammed & getting very difficult to open & shut properly.
*Write shopping list.
*Knit a bit more jumper.
*Find my piccalilly recipe as I'll need to make that soon.
That's pretty much my day.
Cheers all,

Hi All
Having a massively difficult day in the world of commerce. Just keeping at it and hoping to keep going forward with small steps.
Good news on consumption generally, DD home and we are still within the £40 a week groceries, am very pleased with this as she is a fruit addict and has been known to fancy posh cheese and stuff!
Am loving reading your threads as always, very inspirational.
Kobo still not replaced by Kobo who tell me they can tell by the photo my 6 month kobo is not broken, but damaged and they will not replace it! Am quite cross as it is under 6 months old and not been banged about in handbag or whilst commuting etc, it has a quiet life by my bed. I am persevering.
Anyway, said hi to you all, and happy October, now back to the desk.0
