O/S Daily Thursday 1st October 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now getting light, looks to be dry underfoot, so hoping for a dry day – as I want to continue with the washing and getting it line dried.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.
Dinner last night was HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, carrots, peas and gravy – all eaten and enjoyed. Tonight should be chicken goujons, and salad in wraps – but we had chicken last night, so may swap this for something else, I could do spag bol or lasagne so will have a think.
Work yesterday was reasonably busy, now on days’ off, although I am working on Saturday morning. I managed to get several jobs done yesterday afternoon, I still have quite a list to go at so will steadily work my way through that. Rang the Docs as had heard nothing regarding DS2’s appointment for his scan, spoke to the appointment secretary who was able to find his referral and book him in for the next available date – 22 October at 3.30pm so we can go after he comes out from school on a day when I’m not working, hoping this may give us some answers.
I also managed to speak to BT yet again about the continued intermittent loss of broadband and awful telephone line, they did yet another line test stating there’s no problem with the line, and could be the equipment/line/sockets in the house and if an Engineer comes out and the fault is in the house they’ll charge £120 ish for his visit then so much per 15 minutes he’s here – err, I don’t think so, we’ve had awful telephone connections on and off since moving here, and have been through all this before and a few years ago after complaining they sent an Engineer out who put in a new socket at the point of entry of the cabling into the house and then new cabling inside the house and he was insistent that this would solve all the problems that we were experiencing, he installed everything and then hooked his laptop up to it and was being very smug about how it would all be fixed and as soon as he did a test within 2-3 minutes the same fault was still there, and he got in a right huff and was very unprofessional when I said I knew the fault wasn’t inside the house. He then went back to the office and a few days later the “fault” was supposedly fixed. I’m just getting fed up of paying top price for a service that at the moment is awful and non existent on a regular basis, broadband was awful yesterday afternoon and have had a complete evening and into the next day where there was no internet at all, telephone line is awful too, really crackly and sometimes so faint you can barely hear the person the other end. I’m writing a letter of complaint to them as I can’t rely on a consistent email/broadband system to report and track a fault/complaint.
Rant over …….

Morning All
Dark and foggy outside! My bedding is in the machine, will hang that out as soon as it gets light.
Yesterday had its highs and lows, decided to cycle home from work so got my bike out from the shed and was taking it up the steps when I fell! My knee hit the pedal and my pride took a tumble. Anyway, patched myself up and got the bike on the train but that was busy, a chap was already on with a bike in that carriage then a man got on with a huge backpack and mega large suitcase! The cycle home was wonderful though, lovely and sunny. I follow a canal to start with and then a river so quite a scenic journey.
Took the newly painted cabinet to DDs later and luckily the traffic was ok, she was there so helped to carry it upstairs - it looks really good and will be great to keep lots of bits and bobs in, especially all her paperwork that is in a big pile on the table!
Enjoyed bake off last night, only problem is I get really stressed for them!
Feta salad for lunch, not sure about what tea is, will wait and see if I get fed at the hospice later.
TA, hope you had a lovely anniversary.
Take care. XX0 -
Morning :hello:
LameWolf Nice to see you, I hope you had a good holidayHe deletes the history in IE, but they use google for email so stay signed in. I had to go through the google settings to change the search suggestion option. I'm still laughing
Deleting history is about as technical as he gets, there's no way he'll be able to hide things by himself, lol.
Candygirl Nice to see you
They don't use this site so the husband is safeWhen I saw the search history in google, I wondered why he was worrying at all. Don't know what I was expecting, but it was just a couple of links to nude actresses. That's it. I know the wife would just roll her eyes and say 'typical man'

HOWMUCH My kids loved The Very Hungry Caterpillar. By the time they'd stopped reading it (and re-reading it!) it was very tatty. So I threw it out and replaced it, it's still on my bookshelf now and the kids are in their mid-twenties
I hope you had a lovely day yesterday Mr & Mrs TravellingAbuela x
camelot Ouch! Hope you're OK x
Everything's clean except our bedroom. It has all the bathroom stuff in there at the moment. I'm going to have to put the plastic shelves from the shed up there for now, at least the room will be tidy and I'll be able to dust all the surfaces properly.
I have one load of washing to do, then I'll be sorting that room. I expect Scampi will help in the same way that he did yesterday, by stealing the dusters each time I put them downI'm hoping for a peaceful, lazy afternoon – I have two episodes of Criminal Minds recorded and I'm looking forward to putting my feet up and watching them.

Morning one and all. Wow no fog for the sun to burn through this morning so that's a bonus! Oooh nmlc it's horrible when you have to do battle with a big company, they are never wrong in their opinion. Good luck.
Well yesterday wasn't the day we would have planned for our anniversary but, do you know what, it ended up a lovely day! DD did an on-line album of the two of us together over the years with some good times to look back on. Then Mr TA's DB and SIL called up for an hour and we had a good old natter with them. After lunch we went on our (almost) daily constitutional up to the Moorgate and sat on the wall in the sunshine just enjoying feeling on top of the world with the peace, quiet and amazing views. It wasn't just warm, it was HOT and we compared it to our wedding day 43 years ago when it was bitter cold and blowing a gale!
Lots of jobs lined up for today, including a dust and vac round and our overnight bags to pack. A bit of shopping to do and also want to call in at the station and get our tickets for Liverpool. It will give us more time in the morning and save us missing the train if there's a long queue! I'm already worrying about getting to the hospital too late for the appointment but we seem to be allowing plenty of time in case of delays on the way. (We have an enormous hospital about 5 miles away from us but they don't specialise in the type of tumours Mr TA has. hence the trips to Leeds and now Liverpool)
Have a good day all ((((((HUGS)))))) if needed/wanted. HILSTEP have you seen the consultant yet? Take care all xx
Editing to wish CAMELOT a speedy recovery from the tumble. Oooh I felt it for you."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone.
We are blanketed in fog which came down yesterday. The drive back from my teaching session was very slow. Now I can't see the sea or even the next field. Yesterday was so glorious.
I didn't mow the lawn, the grass was very dewy all day as the garden is north facing so I hope it is better today.
Today I've got the electrician coming round to look at a job I need doing to get hot water to the bathroom basin. He'll be calling in so I have to hang around, no great shakes.
I rang the car dealer and he tells me the new one will be with them on Friday or Saturday so I await his call.
TA - you sound all ready for the trip tomorrow, being properly prepared will help take some stress away. My thoughts are with you both.
Happy Thursday everyone.0 -
Morning all,
Bright day here again but chilly off to work for me again, I cant wait for the weekend I am really struggling to get out of bed in the mornings !
DD has her placement meeting today the actual placement starts next week but she has to meet with the lady today to finalise details etc. Mum is coming to noodles sit for an hour or so today.
Burger in a bun with some wedges for dinner tonight dd will do the wedges later on as she will get in first.
Need to put a wash on tonight and have a tidy round.
Camelot, ouch ! hope you are ok xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone
It's a dry and sunny morning here, hubby and the kids have gone off to work/school ok and I'm say here with a cup of tea wondering what to do today.
My friend is supposed to be coming this morning but I think I will try and put her off for a few days. I love her loads but she stays for hours and hours and I quickly run out of things to talk about. I'm not in a very chatty mood anyway and would like to just sit and read today.
DD15 has offered to cook tonight so I am going to take her up on that. We will be having a sausage and bean hotpot with baby potatoes. She is a very good baker too so I might persuade her to make a cake as well.
I haven't got hardly anything to say today, I think it's a definite duvet day for me. I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good Morning everyone, sunny and blue sky here but very, very wet on the lawns and none too warm at the moment. It's due to be another lovely day too so will improve as the day goes on. Washing is in the machine and will dry outside, love it!, we're walking that Cookie twice today, it's too good to miss and the weather will change next week according to the forecast so sunshine days in the bank for when it happens.
TA do pleased you had a lovely day yesterday.
Have yourselves a lovely day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one.
Very bad night OH had palpitations, so was up and down all night. Her still has them, so another tablet me thinks.
Washing in, it's misty just now but it should burn off. No plans for the day , just going to take it easy.0 -
Good morning,
Very misty and murky here at the moment.
Have done a wash but will wait awhile before I put it out. There isn't much just a few coloureds and a bath mat.
Have also cleaned the bathroom and filled the soap dispenser. I will hoover in a few minutes and then I will shower and wash my hair.
Going out to We**erspoons this evening with the girls I used to work with so will be able to catch up on all the news. I think a nice steak will be the order of the day, and I will be leaving as home made cottage pie for Himself and DGD.
TA I am so pleased you had a lovely anniversary and the sun shone on you both.
Camelot you must be sporting a few bruises this morning, sending you hugs for a speedy recovery.
Tru I am sure you will be pleased when all the work is finished and you are straight. I don't know how you managed to keep Scampi out of the way of the workmen, dogs are naturally nosey
Have a good day all

Good morning everyone. It is quite gloomy and damp here at the moment so I'm still waiting for the sun to come out before pegging the washing out. I'm aching a little bit this morning as after starting cleaning the paintwork in the kitchen I decided to start painting. I have painted half the walls and waxed some pine shelving. I then tidied up all the mess before stopping at about 8pm.
Today I shall prepare and paint the other walls and then see what paint I have left in my shed to do the woodwork. I am hoping to get it all finished by the weekend.
Camelot I hope you are ok?
nmlc I hope you get your internet/phone problems resolved. We had a period last year where we kept either getting no internet or problems where the phone would ring but you couldn't answer the call or make calls. We had to have the engineer about four times and on one occasion they charged us but I phoned up and complained and managed to get the charge refunded. We are in a rural area and still on the old copper wires which have been in for decades so its not surprising that we keep having problems . We have been told that we are due to get superfast broadband within the next year or so.
Hope everyone has a good day x0
