Cancelled flight in lapland

In December 2013 our flight was "fogged" in at the local airport in Lapland. We were told to stay at our hotel and if the fog didn't lift we would be transferred to another airport a couple of hours away. The fog stayed and we were transported to the other airport for our flight home. When we arrived at the airport we were told to stay on the coach as the airport was very busy. We were eventually herded into the airport but noticed a lot of the flights were being cancelled. We were eventually told that our flight was cancelled due to air stewards going over their hours of work. We were put up in a hotel overnight but I need to know if we are due any compensation. TIA
