Virgin getting really slow speeds ?

Options
Hi guys
I currently get Virgin bb TV and phone .. Have been with them 3 yr and havent switched.
We only use the BB phones aren't even plugged in and I never watch TV but I do have 2 teenagers whom play a lot of PC gaming whilst chatting with mates on Xbox live, I do a bit MSEing so we need a good connection.
Problem is lately the boys are getting such slow speeds that they are getting kicked out of thier games and bans
I've only just bought top spec gaming PCs (cost a fortune) so I know it's not the PCs ...
My ex hubbie used to organise all the techy stuff and I habent a clue so would really appreciate any advice ...

Does anyone have any recommendations ?

Thanks

Ask Virgin if there are any issues in your area. Maybe your area is oversubscribed causing slowdowns.

How is all this stuff connected ???

WiFi is often the culprit not the ISP .
To test connect router to master socket via ethernet cable and likewise ethernet cable to laptop / PC and test .

Its possible/ probable that the new stuff requires setting up .

By all means check the speeds you should get on a wired connection, and run speedtest to see. If low, it is a fault, anf get an engineer visit. In 7 years I have has to have 2 callouts to fix this, and it is easily done by them swtching your connection to a less-loaded cluster at the fibre that serves your cabinet.

Unlikely my area is the same as yours, but my Virgin 50Mb BB gets about 54Mb download and 3Mb up consistently when checking the wired connection.

Check the same connection on wifi, and I'm only pulling about 35Mb (and that's almost as fast as it gets, could be down to 15Mb dependent on how many walls in between).

As Buzby says, it is normally sorted quite quickly by Virgin if you report a fault.

Soz guys ... I'm so no good at techy stuff ..
As it's just me and the boys now I usually have to get them to go things ... I'll show them your responses and hopefully they will know what to do ... Yep I am hopeless ☺️
