Graduate Accounts 2007/8 discussion

  • Have read today that HSBC have decided against charging interest on the graduate overdrafts...apparently the Facebook gp helped them to see the light!

I have already opened a RBS account instead of HSBC, but now HSBC aren't charging the interest I'm struggling to decide which to use. My application to RBS has taken quite a while to get processed - what are other people's experiences of RBS service?
  • Ive also found the RBS application process painful. Im hoping thought that now hsbc are removing charges ill just be able to keep both and have 3500 interest free OD! Does anyone know if this is allowed?

    hey folks,

any idea's on whether you can open various graduate accounts?
e.g. one in lloyds tsb and other in rbs for example?

simply to get the interest free money and gein interest from savings account from it.

    Or...are there any exclusions?
  • hsbc graduate accounts have changed yet again, so now for the 1st year u can have a £1500 interest free overdraft, all interest charged in august will also be refunded! :D

When I tried switching to RBS after graduating last year, the process was very painful. They kept saying they would call me but didnt and I eventually gave up and kept the HSBC account. Im going to try changing again this year and hopefully it will be easier as I am doing it at a different branch.

As for havibg multiple graduate accounts, usually you have to pay in a certain amount of money each month so if you are earning enough to make 2 payments then you might be ok. You could probably even get your salary paid into one account then set up a standing order to transfer it into your other account the next day ;)

went to my local lloydstsb branch today to confirm whether £500 needed to be deposited into the grad account each month.....the lady behind the counter was unsure, she then looked it up on her computer and confirmed that a minimum payment of £500 HAS to be paid into the grad account everymonth!

RBS dont have these clauses, i asked and there is no mimimum payment!

Know who is getting my custom!
  • Tried applying online but states since i graduated last september that is not with a year so i cant, but their front page specifically says within 3 years?

    thoughts please?
  • I graduated in 2005 after doing a masters and am looking to change graduate bank accounts because I'm so sick of the HSBC! Their latest trick is a £25 arrangement fee for an overdraft which I already have, apparently I'm not alone in this being levied. Can anybody suggest a bank which will offer me the same overdraft of £1500? Another problem in switching is the £550 I owe to the HSBC for my professional studies loan-has anyone had anything similar? Any feedback would be appreciated!
  • I've just been trying to open up a Graduate Account with Lloyds TSB, I meet all the criteria on their website, have no problem switching my current account from Natwest to them, and can manage £500 deposits every month. I called their customer service centre to be sure everything was okay and that I hadd all the necessary documents, all was given the okay.

I travel to my local branch only be told that I can't apply because a) I don't have an account with them already, and failing that, b) my parents don't bank with them? So I travel home, call the customer centre again which tell me that's not teh case at all, so I ask if I can have a direct contact number for my local branch to save me going in again unnecessarily. They put me directly through after having a conversation with my local branch themselves. I'm then told again that I can't open an account because I have no account with them and also that my parents don't bank with them... the lady at the branch now says after speaking to the customer service lady, they've got it wrong at customer services.

What a farse! a journey to town and 20mins on the phone for absolutely nothing!! There is also NO mention whatsoever of this on the Lloyds TSB website. Most frustrating!
