I have recently graduated and have an HSBC account, this explains why I now have a £3.40 charge "due to be appled" on my account. I'm glad Martin pointed this interest rate change out because my own bank didn't even have the decency to tell me about it. In fact they didn't even tell me I now have a Graduate account. Last time I knew (ie when I first got a student account), HSBC had free overdrafts for graduates too.
What makes this even more discusting is each year they have steadily increased my free student overdraft by £250 a year to £1750, without me requesting it. So they knew that by pumping up their customers with "free" debt they could profit from when they conveniently don't tell them that they are going to charge you. Sick.

I have had my HSBC graduate account for nearly a year now and have already had my interest free overdraft reduced to £1000. I am tempted to switch to RBS but the problem is I have a graduate loan with HSBC. Do you think there is a chance that RBS would let me transfer my loan to them along with the account?
This would also give me the confidence to pursue my bank charges claim against HSBC as I am worried they might demand loan repayment back if I claim from them (I have successfully made 3 other claims).
Edit: I suppose I would just pay off the HSBC loan with the RBS loan wouldn't I...didn't think of that

Good for you. I think its outrageous. I dont technically graduate for another year but have effectively finished university and not only will Natwest not let me see the manager to discuss my account status they won't even tell me whether its a grduate account now or not, or when it will become one!0

I just noticed this in the weekly newsletter. My son has an account with them and says he was not informed. Does anyone know when the interest free deal ended? As my son already has a CC with RBS he is going to switch to them. Bloody banks!!0 -
i was thinking that it may only apply to new graduates, as my account certainly hasnt been affected yet. and even though the overdraft is meant to have dropped to £1250 it still remains at £1500 and i havent been charged for being overdrawm. anyone know if it only applies to new customers/graduate account ppl? x0

As far as I know it only applies to new graduate accounts. I have also had my account for about a year and mine has reduced from £1500 to £1000. I can still go overdrawn up to £1500 but over £1000 it is not interest free. I am switching to RBS as in year 2 their interest free limit is £1500 interest free so this is a better deal.0 -

Don't go to Lloyds - I went to them to discover that they are equally useless. I went 72p over my overdraft limit for one day because their internet banking is rubbish and updates sooooo slowly and they want to charge me £30 for it.
I know I should be more careful and it's my own fault etc, but 72p???0 -
hey folks,
any way we can open more than one graduate account up? one at RBS and the other at Lloyds tsb for example?
or are there any clauses to say you cant do this?
thanks in advance
