Looking for some advice for son & family now on holiday in Palma spain
Booked through Alpha rooms, flight to Madrid with connection to palma. Iberia airlines
Flight was late so missed connection. Sent on airport bus by Iberia staff to other terminal for next/last flight Iberia
Iberia staff at other terminal refused to let them on plane unless they paid approx. 500 euros.
How can he claim this back? any compensation? as they then arrived at hotel late at night paying transport from airport.
Does he contact Iberia or Alpha rooms?
Thanks

Depends upon how the ticket was booked. If Alpha Rooms booked a directly connecting ticket with Iberia, your son shouldn't have been charged extra to board the plane. And if they arrived in Palma more than 2 hours later than they should have done (and the cause of the initial delay was not classed as "extraordinary") then they should also received €250 per passenger. Your claim in these circumstances would be against Iberia.
If however your travel agent bought separate tickets (perhaps because it was cheaper)then you have no claim against Iberia - unless the flight to Madrid arrived more than 3 hours late. You would need to claim against Alpha Rooms.
I would start off by writing to both and seeing who says what. They may try to pass the buck! My guide has advice about what to write to the airline.0 -
start with Vauban's guide....
some questions that may be relevant
Were the UK-MAD and the MAD-PMI flights on a single booking/ticket...if this is the case they should not have been charged any additional costs
If Alpha rooms had made these as separate bookings then the the MAD-PMI flight was a separate contract and the ticket fare rules would apply
Compensation for the delayed arrival will also be impacted by the answer above
If separate tickets and the delay into MAD was under 3 hours then no compensation applies. If over 3 hours it will depend on the reason for the delay
If on one ticket, compensation may apply based on arriving in PMI over 3 hours late depending on the reason for the delay0 -
Caz: it is a quirk of the regulation that for a rerouting (which would apply here) 2 hours delay is the threshold for compensation, not 3.0

Hi Thank you for replies.
Have looked at his reservations and it looks like single tickets with change at Madrid.
Flight to madrid was late so they missed connection to palma
To madrid was under the 2 hours but eventual arrival in palma was over that.
Will get more details when they arrive back
