The problem is that some parents complain that the school is acting irresponsibly if they don't call them as soon as the child complain of an ailment.

My friend who has worked in a number of primary schools said that it very much depended on the demographics. Children or working parents were much more likely to be expected to toughen up, SAHP were much more likely to fall in the above category.

One of my girls used to try this trick when she was about 5/6. She'd tell the school she felt sick and they'd ring either me or my parents to come and get her. She perked up no end once she was home!!

I soon got fed up with this, as there was nothing wrong with her. I told the school that unless there was actual lumps of sick on her jumper, don't ring me or my parents. ( My mum used to giver her some disgusting tasting medicine if she had to get her, soon put her off getting grandma to pick her up!)

What finally sorted the problem was a school trip that she desperately wanted to go on. I told her that if she felt sick on the trip, no-one could go and get her, so if she was constantly feeling ill all the time she wouldn't be going on the trip. If she was ill again between now and the trip, it wasn't fair on the other children if she was actually sick, or if the trip had to be cancelled and they came home early. However, as the trip was on a day that I worked, I told her she would still be going into school, even if not going on the trip, and would have to sit in the classroom on her own doing homework.

Funnily enough, I never got the problem ever again!! Harsh but effective!
