From the other side!

I have read all the advice about avoiding parking charges and with the changes in the law, it seems to rather reduce the ability to prevent land owners stopping people parking illegally (or inconsiderately - or both!) on private land.
This is my view. Myself, together with 7 other house owners own a small piece of land at the back of the properties, bought back from the council after it was compulsorily purchased for a road scheme. We have divvied the area up into parking spaces. However the "locals" have also seen this as a nice parking area and have a habit of parking their cars there. Some park in such a way to make it difficult for those of us who own the land to get in and out! I have placed notices on the cars asking them politely not to park on the land as it is private, I have pointed out they are making it difficult for us to get to our parking spaces. They are just ignored!
I am looking at using Flashpark to impose charges on these people. Will this work?

It seems to me that by the way the legislation works, I can follow one of these people home, park on their drive behind their car and block them in and there is nothing legally they can do about it as I am on private land! Is this correct, because this is what they are doing to us!

Cheers

buy some risible bollards , if you use a PPC , they are only after money , from you or your families when they "cannot" see your permit

if you do not use a bit of common sense , your next post will read "flashparks have ticketed residents!!!"

what good will those parasites do? , are they different cars every day , or the same ones? , if they are different , then , they are still going to stay there all day even with a ticket on them, if its the same cars then STOP them , by catching them as they park.

Depending on how you access your land, you could put up a gate or install bollards.

Either way, this will stop the non-owners from parking there.

Of course, if you have parking available at the front of your houses, you could all rent out your rear spaces for cash.

Your post implies that people aren't actually parking in your private parking spots but rather they are making access to said parking spots difficult / impossible ? If so who owns the access area - i.e. is it a public road which people are parking on and thus are neither trespassing nor breaking any council parking regulations ?

You employ Flashpark at your own risk - your cars will not be seen as exempt by them.

Once flashpark have deterred enough of these people* to make it better for you there will be no money in it for them, so they'll either start ticketing residents of just leave and people will come in again.

You will be much better off in the long term by installing a gate / chain / bollard across the entrance to the private road.

You would actually be causing an offense by parking across their driveway, btw.

*Unless, of course, these people have heard the advice to ignore, in which case the tickets will do no good.

and once they have seen off the odd stray parker , there only income from the site would be from the residents ,

OP , go to a signmakers (vinyl) photograph a popular parking sign , and have some made up with a ficticious name/phone number ,

see if the placing of signs deters the parkers

You obviously didn't actually read the legislation then if you think that.

By all means use Flashpark - presumably they're offering their service to you for free - but once they've got rid of your fly parkers, perhaps earning a few hundred quid from those naive enough to stump up without question, 'who they gonna turn to'? And it won't be Ghostbusters - it will be YOU and your fellow house owners. Just one slip-up and you'll be getting a ticket for yourself - then you'll be opening a new thread here!

Why do you want them to 'impose charges on these people' - is this some kind of 'revenge'? Why not ask Flashpark about how they can 'manage' your parking spaces without 'imposing charges'? Bet they have no other answer!

You could put up a sign of your own threatening clamping, with one of your cars 'clamped' from time to time as a demonstration. But to actually clamp a random car is now wholly illegal, but not everyone knows this, and your demonstrated 'threat' might be enough to scare off many!

But if you do decide to sleep with the devil, don't be surprised if he shafts you!

  • good idea , buy an old car and one of trevs old clamps (as sold on ebay) , park this ON YOUR LAND with the clamp clearly visible
  • Thanks for all the suggestions. No I haven't read all the legislation, but how is then that they can park on land that I own (and it appears I can do nothing about it) yet I can't park on their driveway - what's the difference?

The access is from a main road. Bollards will be difficult as the road is busy and not enough space to get a vehicle off the road whilst the bollard lowers (or gate rises). It then also give problems with legitimate visitors.

Flashpark is a self ticketing operation so there should be no chance of ticketing your own cars. Make sure you can cancel the contract if it's not working out and bear in mind that if ParkingEye lose Beavis motorists may sue you for their money back.

Bear in mind that if you all own individual parking spaces the contract may be a bit of a nightmare as all landowners will need to be involved
