John Lewis iPhone 6s sim lock
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but I'm unable to find a definitive answer.
John Lewis are selling iPhones with a 2 year warranty but their website states the phone will lock to the first network sim placed in the device. Getting their unlocked seems only possible by contacting the network provider who may either charge or refuse to unlock before a certain amount of time has elapsed. The lock seems to be via the Apple database.
For me the whole point of buying a phone outright is the flexibility to change sim only deals at will.
I can't understand why John Lewis have chosen to do this. I know for a fact that phones sold direct by Apple do not lock as I've bought direct previously.
I'd prefer to buy from John Lewis for the customer service and longer warranty but the risk seems too great at the moment. There are companies with good feedback who claim to be able to unlock iPhones for a fee but I'm not too confident of this option either.
Does anyone have any information about this topic please ?
Thanks

I read it as Sim Free. Their contracts, if you took one, is with VF. I've just been looking at them myself as I saw in Costco today they now have both the iPhone 6 and 6plus in stock as well as the Samsung S6 Edge. All cheaper than JL . Like you though JL are always very good without a doubt.0

I would buy it direct from Apple. My experience is that if you buy the device directly from them you will get much better treatment. And it will be unlocked.0

No, they don't. Before JL did this only CPW stock did this.
If you buy an iPhone from Giffgaff or Three it is also unlocked, just like Apple.====0 -
I thought Vodafone sold them unlocked too, though I could be wrong...
Three are definitely unlocked, regardless of phone and tariff (pay as you go or contract).0 -
I bought a CPW iPhone once when launch stock was really low, it did lock to my Three SIM but Three unlocked it no problem.
I remember reading at the time that some people were having trouble with EE as they didn't sell the phone they wouldn't unlock it.0 -
Vodafone definitely lock them0
