Maybe the wireless driver hasn't updated itself correctly, assuming you are/were using a wireless connection. Use a cable connection if you can and then see if Windows 10 sorts itself out - which may sort out the WiFi as well.
Once Windows 10 is activated, you can roll back to 7 if you wish and the machine will be registered with Microsoft for Windows 10, so you can upgrade to that (at no cost) beyond the deadline date for free upgrades.
If the laptop is really messed up, maybe a factory restore will be your best hope, but you will lose any data, extra software and configuration you currently have on it - and may still have to do the free upgrade to make sure it is registered...
