sky broadband with phone

I'm currently with Sky still in the 12 months discount period (Internet free + half price TV Family bundle). As I don't watch TV much I'm considering dropping TV altogether mid November when my discount expires. Freeview and Netflix will do. However, I do need Internet & homephone as I work from home 2 days per week and I do a lot of international calling. What is the best package for unlimited broadband and unlimited local calls plus an international calls package?

These are the current costs:
Sky Broadband Unlimited - free now (this will be £7.50 from November, if I keep the TV package - I think)
Sky Talk Anytime International - £10.00
Sky TV Family - £18 half price now (I plan to drop TV in November when it gets to £36)
Sky Talk Line Rental £16.40

Does anyone know if the costs for Unlimited Broadband and Sky Talk Anytime Intl will stay where they are if I drop the TV at the end of the contract - so Unlimited Broadband for £7.50 and Talk Intl for £10?

Or will they increase to £10 for broadband and £12 for Sky Talk Anytime Intl? - these are the costs for new customers who don't have TV.

My only choices are Sky and TalkTalk - because of the Intl call bundle (it lists the countries I need to call often). I don't want to go to TalkTalk, customer service is appalling. But I also don't want to pay Sky £4.5 more, just because I'm dropping TV.

Thank you.

  • One more thing: what is the best approach for negotiating with Sky? Dropping TV first, then negotiate a new discount for Broadband + phone? Or do it before I drop the TV?

Unless they have changed, which I doubt (as the you don't need tv offer is for newcomers)you get £2.50 discount for having tv, so bb will be £10.

The same as last year, I have given my notice on tv and was offered 50% off tv , immediately. They also offered line at £12 something, Anytime calls at the £5 rate (newbies have to choose from £4 evening and weekend or £7 for anytime and mobile calls), but I didn't notice what my bb was offered at, as I didn't want to deal then, having a month's free line rental to go.

I will negotiate phone/bb when there are just under two weeks to go on the free line. This way, I gamble on having to pay full rate for a time if I move, but hope to stay and use most of my 'free' time. (Last year took three attempts to get the deal I wanted, one poor offer being at tv cancellation and this year's is better than that, already)

To add: last year I cancelled tv, then having got an excellent phone/bb deal , asked what they could add for tv and took that offer , too)

Thanks. I don't want the TV at 50% though. I simply don't want to pay for TV anymore, as I don't watch it.

So worse case Sky net+phone scenario for me will be £38.40 (which is £10 unlimited broadband + £12 Talk Anytime Intl + £16.40 line rental). Best case scenario would be £33.90 (so £7.50 net + £10 phone + £16.40 lr)

Either that, or switch to TalkTalk or EE and get their £100 voucher.

I've just realized EE's international phone package offers the country list I want and it's cheaper than TalkTalk (I hate TalkTalk!).... 6 months at £4.95 per month, and next 6 months at £14.95 per month. So on average EE would be £9.95 + £16.40 line rental for the first 12 months for "Broadband & Anytime & Mobile calls + International calls". Unless I'm missing something here?

Does anyone have feedback on EE broadband, are they any good?
  • I called Sky a couple of months back to cancel everything (we had tv, phone and broadband) and they offered me free broadband and weekend calls for a year, so I'd just need to pay line rental. We're currently just paying the £16.40 a month, so I guess with your international bit on top you'd be looking at £26.40?

It seems to be a fairly standard offer as when they sent me a confirmation letter the new package had a name, I forget what, but it suggested they offer it a lot.

I'd just give them a call and see what they can do. I just stayed nice and polite and let her run through all the different options. Worked out pretty well for us.

Thank you, I will try the 'cancel all' approach first. That would be great to pay "only" the line rental fee and the Anytime Intl package - which would be £10 or £12, not sure. I'm paying £10 now, but the cost for new customers is £12.
