O/S Daily Monday 28th September 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now getting light, looks to be dry underfoot, but was a cold night, so hoping for a dry day – as I want to continue with the washing and getting it line dried.

DH up and gone to work. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Lunch yesterday was roast lamb, roasties, mash, carrots, broc, peas, pan fried cabbage with bacon, Yorkshires and gravy, the meat was delicious, I preset oven so it had long slow cooking and it was just right. Dinner tonight will be scampi, chips/jacket potato and beans/salad/veg.

We went to visit DH’s grandad yesterday and all seems well with him, he seemed better in himself than the last time we saw him. We then did call in quickly to my parents as we hadn’t seen them for a few weeks.

Back to work for me today, not sure what the day will bring, it’s approaching the 1st of the month again, so could be busy.

Keep safe and well x

Fish fed & hubby has a cuppa, he's not back at work until tomorrow at the earliest.
I'm setting off in a sec, let's hope the problems from Friday have been resolved, one of the people involved is a grumpy bu&&er at the best of times.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning one and all. We currently have fog but the forecast is for the sun to burn through and then another warm sunny day ahead. I have a pile of wet washing waiting to peg out when I am dressed!

Despite my reservations, all went well for Mr TA and DS yesterday at the rugby match at Elland Road. They had both thoroughly enjoyed their day out and Mr TA was suffering no ill effects, other than feeling tired by the time they got home. He had a bit of tea and then a nap on the sofa. I think it did him good to get out in the real world again.

Nothing much planned for today, just pottering. I really must make the effort to cut back the ivy and jasmine that's growing up the fence round to the back garden. It's so overgrown and wild we have to fight our way through almost!

There seems to be lots of bits and pieces in the fridge to eat up so I won't need to raid the freezer today I don't think. I'll see what I can concoct out of them!

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS)))))))) if wanted/needed. Take care and enjoy the sunshine if you can xx

    Morning everyone.

Another warm day promised for us, so here's hoping.

Yesterday OH and I had a day out, first time in ages, we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful day and some lunch. Back home some little jobs got done and we had a long debate about IP cameras for the back garden.

Today I'll get some washing done I hope - bed linen mostly. Both beds needs to be changed so I hope the good weather appears. Apart from that there's a spot or two of vacuuming to be done and then a little light dusting. Tomorrow I want to get back down to JLewis to order four sets of curtains, unfortunately they won't come out this far to measure or fit.

Right, my day starts here. I hope everyone has a good Monday, bank holiday or not.
  • Morning All

Bank holiday here, more painting for me! Stripped DS2s bed yesterday, I had left it clean but with all the building work it had got really dusty so that's out on the line - hopefully when the fog clears it will be the beautiful sunny day we have been promised!

Spent Saturday night at DDs, she cooked me salmon and stir fry for dinner and we had a good catch up, it was nice to just chill and be away from the work going on here!

Spent yesterday at various shops for DD and did a bit of DIY, managed to hang a large mirror in her hall and then last night put up a mirror in her bathroom, it is one of those with a hole in each corner, I had 2 that were taken down from here. She was a bit enthusiastic with the screwdriver and broke one of them! She had a complete meltdown as she knew I was at the edge of my DIY skills and thought she had let me down! Anyway, the other one went up fine and she ended up a happy bunny.

Just given the cabinet I was given its final coat of paint so that can go to DDs later this week, less clutter here!

Have a good Monday everyone, HH, I hope OH feels better soon and well done to Mr TA, sounds like he had a good time.

    Welcome ancientofdays! Take care. XX

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Well the weekend went by far too quickly and now I am here on my own again as hubby and the girls are in work/school. I had a sad phonecall from my eldest daughter to say that my grandson had had a fit at his dad's house and the ambulance had been called. He is okay now, just a bit sleepy but as this is his first fit and there is epilepsy in the family he would have to go and have some tests. Poor little chap, he's only 4 years old, I hope he will be fine.

I managed to get some sleep last night so I don't feel as groggy as usual. Insomnia is an absolute pain in the proverbial, I manage to get some quiet chores done and catch up with threads on the net but I am always aware that I should be asleep and it's going to be a very long day ahead.

Tonight we are having an easy tea of baked potatoes with assorted fillings so I can use up bits and pieces in the fridge. Hubby cooked over the weekend and he had a fancy for belly pork so that is what we had with mashed potatoes and beans, and jolly nice it was too. I love a roast dinner but they are a lot of work so I am quite happy to have an alternative especially if someone else is doing all the work.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Good Morning everyone we too have another beautiful day so we are going to enjoy it by going for a nice walk somewhere and having a snacky lunch out. He Who Knows has Cookie out early today and I'll take her this afternoon we're so enjoying our walks again and having our routine days back is much nicer. We had a nice long skype with DD2 and the Zebra yesterday afternoon, he's had such a lovely holiday and is happy to be back with his toys etc. he was very chirpy. DD and SIL poor loves seem to have picked up a horrid cold so were feeling groggy, hope it doesn't last too long.

Housework done, washing in the machine, an easy supper planned for this evening of grilled bacon, poached egg, mushrooms, tomatoes and potato cakes so looking forward to enjoying the sun and not feeling guilty for not doing something else!

Have yourselves a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.
  • Morning (((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

Just a quick pop in I need to get on. Laundry basket emptied first load ready to go out. Monday clean to do. OH has just come in and said the lights on the washer were blinking, I think the belt has gone, it will not spin. Have rung the chap to come and have a look at it. Grrrrrrr doing my best to pay off debts from moving and the damn washer goes phut!!

Lovely bright morning, but brrrrr its colder than yesterday. Did not see the eclipse, was fast asleep.

Hello can I come join you all, today is the first day of my retirement. I'm not old enough for state pension, but taken my NHS pension as I was 60 in July. Money will be tight for the next few years but I think I've got it sorted and I've lived for over a year at my new reduced income. I have almost 6 years before the state pension kicks in.
So good morning to everyone, it's foggy in my part of Yorkshire but the sun is starting to come out. OH says it's going to be a nice day.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)
  • Good morning everyone. Hope your grandson is better soon Dumpling. Welcome to Howmuch.

Feeling a little tired this morning as I got up at 2.30am to watch the lunar eclipse. I got a really good view as the sky was really clear. I spotted a few meteors too as an added bonus :) I was lucky to be able to see it from my bedroom window so no shivering out in the cold for me!

The house is a little untidy after the weekend so I shall crack on this morning and set things straight. It is warm and sunny here and already up to 15 degrees according to the thermometer. 1st load of washing already on the line and second lot in the wm. I am doing a roast dinner tonight as with everyone being out and about yesterday we didn't have one.

Hope everyone has a good day x

    Morning all

Just having a cuppa and a catch up. Checked bank accounts and written a list of odd things to get next time we go to the out if town shopping centre that I detest with a vengeance!

Had a lovely swim with the sun shining in the pool this morning and off for my weekly ladies cycle ride later. I think the cupcake cafe in Margate is our destination today. We are blessed to live along the coast. For those of you who haven't been to Margate recently, it's having a real resurgence, with Dreamland etc, and some lovely shops in the Old Town.

Stuffed butternut squash for dinner tonight. the stuffing will be leftovers.

have a good day all, and hugs to those in need.
