Please can you provide any advice.
I have been contacted by a debt collectors who are acting on behalf of EE mobile. They have said that I owe £500 on a mobile bill.
I asked for proof, they sent a copy of the bill. The bill is for an Iphone which I have never had even though my name and old address has been used on the account.
I have contacted EE mobile who have indicated that the account has been closed as it is now in the hands of the debt collectors.
Please does anybody have any advice....how can a phone be set up with EE in my name and I have no knowledge of it? what happens if I do not pay? is this Identity fraud? what steps should I take? will this effect my credit score? how do I know if anything else has been set up in my name?
any help would be greatly appreciated
thankyou

Certainly sounds like ID Fraud.
You said it was set up at your old address? Did you leave any paperwork behind, bills statements ect? And did you have your post forwarded to your new address? As that's what someone would have needed to setup and acc in your name.
You need to get back on to EE and have to report it to their fraud dept for investigation, that should put a hold on anything more happening.
To find out if anything else has default you need to sign up for free 30 days with one for the credit reference agency's and see what's on your credit file.0
