Taxing a vehicle as a trader

How would that change things? It wouldn't need to be in the spouses name anyway, op could register it and tax it himself. He's asking how he can use the yellow slip thing to keep hold of the log book and tax it without having to wait for a new logbook.
He wants to Tax it without registering it in his partners name. But still use the vehicle, V5s arrive within a week or two these days and if he wants to Tax the vehicle it is unlikely a two week delay in getting a V5 will make any difference, he just wants to avoid registering in his partners name.
That is a solution.
Why would I post a solution based on the assumption he or she wants to avoid the legalities of vehicle usage.
You are not supposed to be using a vehicle that is registered as in the trade. That is what people do to avoid parking fines, speeding fines and bailiffs isn't it?
Why do you think the VED system was changed? Not to make it more efficient that's for sure it was done to increase revenues and reduce the chances of people taking the !!!!.
The reason his spouse can't use the vehicle with trade plates is simply because she is not allowed to park the vehicle anywhere and you are only supposed to use them when using the vehicle for trade purposes.
Which with all the best will in the world dropping your kids off at school and going shopping isn't.0 -
That's not what op asked at all.
Op buys vehicle
Fills in yellow slip to transfer to trade, thus retaining v5 so he can sell car straight away if a buyer is found without waiting for a new v5.
Op wants to tax car to use legally without trade plates.
No mention of op not wanting his wife being a keeper.0 -
Why Tax a car if you need to sell it?
You can't sell it with the Tax so a vehicle with Tax is worth the same.
Unless the vehicle is high end or something valuable like a 911 then another keeper makes little if any difference to the vehicle.
Re read Post #3 and you will see the OP doesn't want the vehicle registered to him or her.
The new VED system is designed to prevent such "in trade" usage as it allows people to get away with parking tickets and speeding offences.0 -

Because he wants to be able to use it in the meantime0 -

Then put the vehicle in his name then.
It isn't rocket science, unless you are a dodgy trader or trying to avoid parking tickets etc.
There is a simple way round this but I am not going to publicise it to allow people to avoid having a car I their name.0 -

Interesting you tell somebody to re-read a post when you've clearly missed the whole point of the thread!
Let me give you an idiots guide to what op wants to do:
put the car up for sell
keep the v5
use it n the meantime lawfully
Op says nothing about not wanting them to be registered keeper, just that he wants a way of taxing it without temporarily losing the v5 which means he can't sell itThen put the vehicle in his name then.
That's what op was trying to avoid. Hence asking if there was a way. He now knows the answer!

Suggesting a dealer wanting to use his own vehicle without temporarily going without a logbook is dodgy is ridiculous. There is a simple way round this but I am not going to publicise it to allow people to avoid having a car I their name. There is a simple way round this but I am not going to publicise it to allow people to avoid having a car I their name.0 -
Err, the car will be in trade, DVLA will know exactly who has the car
The OP might have bought the car at auction, who sourced it from WBAC or another trader. All DVLA know is who the last registered keeper passed the car to. They don't know anything about any changes it may have made within the trade.0 -
Not necessarily...

Well my point was it's unlikely ops intentions are to evade tickets etc.
But elaborating on your point... surely the new owner as a trader would take the v5 from the auction or trader buying from, then use that v5 number to notify dvla online of the transfer in the same way the trader selling it would have when they bought it.........0 -
The trader doesn't notify DVLA at all - the vendor does. And they do so by sending the slip in to DVLA.
The online keeper-change notification for traders explicitly only asks if the car is coming into the trade or leaving it - it doesn't ask if it's being transferred between traders, because DVLA don't care about that.

Why don't DVLA care? Because while the car is in the trade, it should not be being used - except under trade plates.0 -
arcon obviously doesn't know how the "in trade" system works and why it is therefore open to abuse.
I have never heard of any trader driving an "in trade" vehicle receive any form of notification about a speeding offence or parking offence.
Even if they did you would simply send them a name of who you believe owns the vehicle now.
ANPR will show a vehicle as "in trade".0
