Taxing a vehicle as a trader

I have bought a vehicle, filled out section 9 I think it is to transfer it to a motor trader, the seller kept this to send to DVLA, I kept the log book.
I need to tax this vehicle (cant use trade plates on it), which document ref or how shall I tax it as i'm not the 'registered keeper' as such, just the trader it was transferred to.

If it's in stock, why do you need to tax it? Don't you have trade plates for test drives and other business-related use?
If it's not stock, and you're not only using it in the course of your business, then you ought to be the keeper.0 -
I want the car taxed as it's to be used by my spouse, whom is also insured for trade purposes aswell as SDP. It will therefore be parked on the road much of the time and I don't want trade plates always out and about with her. So I need it taxed.
It is a stock car, so we may have it a week or a month or so - so it makes no sense to register as the keeper, thus not having the log book if it's sold.0 -
From a web chat with DVLAComment From Guest: I am a part time motor trader, striving to build into a full time business. Can I tax a car, so it can be used whilst for sale, without registering it into my name?
Wayne Stephens:No, you are required to use trade plates to carry out your day to day business. If you want to tax it then you will need to register in your name first.0 -
Can't you just use the document ref code on the green slip, then not send the log book to the dvla. It'll be marked as taxed and when its sold fill in the log book and send it off with the new buyers details.0

No, of course you don't. They'd be withdrawn if that kind of abuse was discovered.0 -

That's pretty much what ops already said and is in fact quite a common thing, especially where PT traders are concerned. Where you going with itNo, of course you don't. They'd be withdrawn if that kind of abuse was discovered.
Admittedly I don't know fully where op would stand, the guidelines state a permitted use isbetween traders’ premises and a place where it
starts or finishes a journey
So if they was used to go to the shop, surely the shop would be the place where it finishes its journey so it would be allowed. Or a place of work if the trader is part time.0 -
I'm just wondering if his missus is planning on paying income tax on the benefit-in-kind of her company car?
Can't have it both ways. It's either stock, being used only in the course of business under trade plates, or it's a private vehicle and needs registering and taxing.0 -

Which I imagine is why the OP was asking how he can tax it as a trader0
