I'm recovering from a stroke and do find it hard to spend long on the computer, but there are such posts.

I'm sorry if you felt I was being rude. One of my reasons for joining was to learn. In the same way, I do feel I have something to offer.

Oh dear, this reply was for JimJames - must have pressed the wrong key.

No problem, I certainly didn't find it rude. I think it's great to have a mix of those on the forum about to offer assistance as well as request it.
Don't get me wrong, I think BTL has a place but alongside other investments, not instead of them.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

That is why, if you intend to buy an annuity with your pension pot, you should gradually move into safer investments, perhaps even cash, some years before your retirement date.

Most stories of serious losses from investing can be traced back to poor investment strategies. Investing of life-changing amounts of money is not a trivial job and requires thought, knowledge and experience. Hence I would suggest that all investment newbies investing serious amounts of money should start off with an IFA.
