VW shares

I was wondering when the best time to invest in Volkswagen was ?
The German government will, no doubt, ensure that the company survives and may also "bail them out" - so, if the shares do drop further - when is the time to invest ?

When they're at the bottom.
Not being facetious... That's is exactly why it is nigh-on impossible to time the market. How would you, I, or anyone else know something about such things that the market as a whole does not?I am one of the Dogs of the Index.0 -
The news keeps on getting worse, yet the shares rose recently, which I guess was the short sellers buying back.
The only news I can see that would significantly relieve the pressure on VW is if the other manufacturers were found to be doing the same thing. But as time goes on that seems less likely as you would think they would have been found out by now?“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

Marconi survived, but the banks helped themselves to 99.5% of the equity without a shareholder vote....“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -
The best car companies have generally been bad investments, so why rush in on one which has been terribly managed? Nobody knows how this will end for VW. Fines and a loss of trust are certain, but it could be worse. A German bail-out wouldn't necessarily help shareholders, and why invest in something that's dependent on politicians to turn out okay?
I don't think I'd want to invest in the best car company, since there's so many problems with the industry that make it just awful for investors. The main one being that in a downturn or when people are feeling a bit tight with money, it's extremely easy to just keep running your old car. You don't need to continually replenish it like food or shampoo. So the sales drop off a cliff while the company is stuck with unsold cars and huge, expensive factories that can hardly turn on and off on a dime. This is everybody's fault but mine.0 -

It was a stunning turn around from what was a cash rich company as Weinstock's GEC.
New paradigm, as someone just replied on your thread about most frightening words.0 -
Telegraph Questor today was saying to Avoid VW shares."If you aren’t willing to own a stock for ten years, don’t even think about owning it for ten minutes” Warren Buffett
