Now a criminal offence under the Prevention of Social Housing Fraud Act 2013. You can get up to two years for it. And you can be ordered to hand over any profit plus interest.

  • Contact the council fraud department first thing on Monday. Social housing is there for people in genuine need. It is a criminal offence in many cases to sublet council/social housing and is also morally reprehensible if people who may have been on waiting lists for years are being cheated out of it. Good luck with this.

Its the landlords that are complete scum. They see a chance to make a quick buck at the expense of the taxpayer and vulnerable families, and grab it with both hands.

    Strong words recently.
The landlords have a right to lease out their property (that's the whole point of having the property to rent out) the tenants may otherwise be without accomodation during their stay. So it could be argued that they are providing a social service.

Did you actually read the OP/thread?

Its quite likely that the landlord in this case has been renting illegally from the very beginning, so there is very little question of them having any kind of "right" to let!

Also I'm puzzled at why this is in MRF - It should be in one of the appropriate housing forums unless the OP is actually related to the landlord/victims?
