We found the house we r buying is ex-council just a week before exchange. What to do?

Like you say, with both Northfield and Longbridge having a lot of money spent on them I think things can only improve in those less good areas.
Which is exactly why many of us suspected that this was the area OP was buying in - it fitted their description. We weren't for one minute suggesting Northfield was a rough area or a bad place to buy.0 -

Never had Harborne described as an up and coming area. If it Harborne and not Estate Agent speak then i wouldnt worry too much about buying.
One of mates had an ex authority house which sold within a week in Harborne (in August ) so i imagine you wont have any problems with resale.
PS Northfield comments related to an area described as an up and coming area. It could go either way0 -
Harborne is really more up and come than coming, at least the central part is. I have lived there, in the past, and not an area where you'd worry much at nughtI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0
