Thanks for good wishes re dentist. It was uncomfortable & I was pretty stressed when I got there, but I had 2 injections & didn't feel actual pain, just a lot of pushing & ramming, as apart from the crown, I also had another badly broken tooth mended with a metal screw. Note to self: Next time, don't look at the screw before he rams it in. I saw it at very close quarters but it looked big enough to hang a bloody gate! Never mind, it's done now. Went to pay up, knowing the crown was quoted at £200. I paid £100 last time to split the cost. Total bill was £203-70. I was a bit surprised by that, as the tooth which needed the metal screw took a quite a long time & seemed much more complex than a normal filling, which would usually cost around £35. So I was expecting the bill to be much closer to £300. I think they must only have charged me for the crown. Don't know why, but it's not something I'm going to query. Called at Waitrose on way home to buy a treat to take when we visit Dad tomorrow & a couple of bits I forgot to put on the shopping list. Spent more than £5 (just!) which meant we qualified for a free 'Guardian'. Took advantage of free coffees too. Talked ourselves into sending out for pizzas tonight instead of cooking. Then talked ourselves OUT of pizzas seeing as I'd worked hard on the budget this morning & it seemed self-defeating. Go us! No way would we have done that a few years ago, pair of spendy shockers that we used to be!
DNMS - So glad you found that receipt. I'd have been so mad if it had been me! All that effort. Glad you can claim your money now.
Have a nice Friday night, everyone. Think I shall be heading for the paracetamol for my sore jaw, but it's mr f's cooking night, there's chocolate in the cupboard & it'll be nice just to have a cosy evening on the sofa watching some TV (currently watching 'Top of the Lake').
Cheers,

Hi All
Late checkin in from me. Todays small things
1) 2nd roadkill score on my bike this week. Having screeched to a halt yesterday to pick up 50p, today I spied a shiny £1 coin! Again checking it was safe and no traffic behind me I nabbed it.
2) Uploaded 2 reciepts twice, once into Quidco & once into CheckoutSmart
3) Checked banking. Tenant had paid rent, so I was able to :
4) Make a £10 PAD to the 0% card
5) Made a £3 PAD by rounding the business account
6) I have been invited to take part in an online focus group on the 8th for my business energy provider, £50 for 90 mins work. Easy money
7) Sons bargain ebay onsie turned up when we got in from school so he is super pleased and is currently wandering around dressed as a cosy shark
8) Personal NSD
9) Walked/cycled all journies
10) Tips were good today, didnt get chance to count up though as super busy.
So today, 3rd busy day in a row at the shop. I am up £100 week on week, which is brilliant to say the least. A young girl came in with my oldest customer today, not sure of the link, but whilst she was there she said, if I am looking for help she'd be happy to 'volunteer' 2 days a week. I said no, that if I cant afford to pay staff thats not happening. Anyway, she seemed a bit put out, & said she is looking for work experience, isnt currently working and wouldnt mind. So I felt a bit akward which is my default setting when anyone tries to help me unexpectedly, & I took her number and said I will let her know.
But seriously, I dont think its right to allow someone to give up their time for free, for a non charitable organisation, and I dont want any reprocussions. So I think its a no.
I am utterly delighted to have finished my long stint of work, I am so happy at the thought of having the next 2 days free I could do a jig!
MinnieMousesMum - I am very sorry you have been on the recieving end of that attitude from your sons teacher. They shouldnt be so laissez faire about your sons lost shoes. If it were me, I'd write a formal letter of complaint about both the shoes being lost & the attitude of the teacher. I think what worries me more is your feeling of distrust around him, that isnt good. I wonder if CCL has any thoughts on that as a teacher?
Foxgloves - The dentist session sounds really unpleasant. Hope tonight you will sleep better knowing its over and done with.
By the way, I loved Top of the Lake, and found it very original & quite chilling/exciting.
Ally - Hope your cold wont stop you enjoying the weekend.
Bye for now

Hello everyone,
Been quiet for the past few days as I've been movingit wasn't as stressful as I thought and now we're in and almost unpacked. We've still got bits at the old house though so got more to move but all the major bits and the big bits are done
Not got a fridge at the new house (the old house come with the fridge so had to leave it there, although was cheeky and asked the EA if I could keep it but not heard back from them so guessing thats a no. Might ring on Monday and chase up, so cheeky I know but will save me money!! and the new tenant might have a fridge anyway so it will just end up being dumped). No tea for mealthough mum did suggest putting it in some cold water but don't want to risk it going off and if I only buy a small carton a day it's a waste of money, so will just go without for now!!
Not got internet yet at the new house so can only access at workbut I'm normally on here more while I'm at work anyway
Luckily I work in a supermarket with free Wi-Fi so use that to catch up with FB and emails and I can still check FPL on my phone. Hopefully won't be too much longer without internet athough got lots to keep me occupied.
I've got a garden at the new house (well to me it is, not massive and no grass but big enough for table and chairs and washing line etc) I'm thinking of getting a few pots and growing some of my own fruit, veg and herbs so any advice would be greatfully recieved.
Anyway list of what I've done/going to do today:
- Unpack some more bits
- Sort through clothes and put away stuff to keep, stuff for loft and stuff to go
- Check FPL (still old postcode at the moment so need to update but technically we're still living there)
That is honestly all I can think of today, spent money on my break at workgot three sweets for £1.20 and ate them all
Anyway gonna have a read of what I've missed over the last few days before I finish work.Read my diaryHere0 -
Phew - I've made it to the weekend!
Legomum - pleased that you felt better after you'd seen the teacher, and foxgloves - I hope you're not in too much discomfort after your dental work.
It's going to make me sound like an utter bigoted pig here - but I really think that male PE teachers are all of a certain 'type'. Appearing arrogant and full of themselves (although they are actually ok once you get to know them - and they are always the butt of jokes from every other type of teacher in the school). Depending on the type of school your DS is at (and the type of shoes), there is a possibility they have been stolen - that wouldn't surprise me at my place at all. Have you spoken to the Head? I would suggest that if you've gotten nowhere with the PE teacher. Is the school an academy or LA? I think it's awful that after a fortnight his shoes are missing (I presume he has checked with lost property).
As for charging for books and equipment, Ally is absolutely right - we can ask for contributions, but we cannot expect them to pay and we can't disadvantage those that don't pay. The trouble is that we are so badly underfunded it's difficult to give the best without asking for help. The only 'extra' I ever ask the kids for is a £3 revision guide, which is what we pay to get them in.crazy_cat_lady wrote: »

MMM DS came to me this morning with 2 letters from school asking for a total of £43. £22 of it was for English books. He can borrow books from school but they "encourage" parents to buy a set for home studies, the child can then make notes in them etc. What do you say? Who wants their child at 15 being the only one in class who has to borrow books?
The other £21 was towards a course which DS wants to do which is not part of the curriculum. Seeing his anxious face this morning telling me he wouldnt do the course if we couldnt afford it made me throw my arms around him and tell him I would live on bread and jam rather than him miss out. It wont come to that of course but some budgeting adjustments are needed.
So the next job this afternoon is working out figures for October.
Yorkshirelass it might be worth looking to see if you can buy the books 2nd hand.determined_new_ms wrote: »Rejoice! I called oh when I realised I had lost the receipt and he went to the CM's house and found it in the street
