Do the "smart" motorways not have ANPR cameras? Would have been a smart move to incorporate into them. :rotfl:

Is that people who are genuinely evading it, or people who didn't realise that it's automatically cancelled when the car changes ownership and still think it's got 1-11 months left on it?

As the Government don't release their current years VED evasion stats until November I'm struggling to see where you're getting you're info from OP. Where's the source?

I am also of the opinion that evasion is not increased but detection is.

The new system is a bit of a con.

I know somebody that put his car in his daughters name after she passed her test, vehicle was never out of Insurance and was paid for the entire year upfront (£30)

A few weeks later a letter came through saying the vehicle was not taxed, no refund was ever issued by DVLA for the 4/5 months lost VED. Ok we are only talking £10/12 but imagine that times a few hundred thousand.

And that is before you consider selling cars which happens on a daily basis, I lost 3 weeks Tax on my last car. If you sell any car in the middle of the month the DVLA is getting paid twice for a period of time.

As my Mum used to say the government don't change things to benefit anybody but themselves, you just need to look at the new system/contract for the clause the hits you in the pocket.

A good example would be the 1995 Section of the NHS Pension, the 2008 Section contained a few little curve balls, they kept on asking you to change aswell, I think I was contacted 3 or 4 times asking if I wanted to change.

The "smart" motorways have cameras that can't even enforce against vehicles that ignore a flashing red X above a particular lane. smiley-rolleyes010.gif

I'm pretty sure most of them aren't even on when the speed isn't lowered.
