I do it the old fashioned way. Stanley blade, cut through both severed ends about half an inch and careful not to cut into the three wires plastic casings, pull off black outer casing, cut round plastic casing on each of the three wires enough to show copper wiring, twist each of the three wires to each end to join, wrap insulating tape round each, then wrap same tape round to cover sufficiently to join both ends securely and make water-tight. Job done, total time less than 15 mins. Unless I've read the thread wrong.

Me too. In the good old days you could get your screwdriver out, take the trimmer apart, remove the old cable and fit a new one.

Same with irons and their frayed cables. Now houshold products are more difficult to get into.

Good job really , considering how many buffoons there are about

Given that it's an outdoor appliance, it would be safer to use a waterproof connector like this one: http://www.screwfix.com/p/teetube-ip68-3-pole-in-line-cable-joint/92911
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon

I would prefer something like a proper flex connector http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/homebase-13a-3-core-flex-connector---white-823185
I needed one once when some numpty got my kettle lead caught in a sandwich toaster.

    Or a plug-and socket arrangement http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/homebase-heavy-duty-2-pin-flex-connector-%28plug-and-socket%29---orange-846051
    (that's a 2-pin one - get a 3-pin if the appliance needs an earth)

These are only for indoor use only and are clearly sold as such.

Op, have the flex replaced on your appliance as this will ensure your on-going safety.

I would do almost as pendragon_arther but would either solder and heat shrink the cores with an outer heat shrink or use heat shrink solder crimps - everyone has those in their tool box don't they ? :p

For a 'waterproof product, you need something for Aquatic application.
The link below whilst for the wall mounted powersafe - also illustrates (on the right) a cable connector -

    - I accidentally cut through an armoured cable, got one of these - no problem since through rain and snow (it rested on the ground).

i've cut through my electric hedge trimmer cable about 4 times over the years: the cable is getting progressively shorter as i bodge it back together with connector block and plenty of electricians tape.
