...no laughing please!
So, I've been on Youtube trying to find a film of how I can join the two severed ends together. On this occasion Youtube has let me down and I can't find anything!
Please can someone tell me what I will need and I how I do it?
Many thanks

We've all done it at one time or another.
Something like this will be fine. http://www.screwfix.com/p/debox-in-line-connector-box/8692h
I used a plug and trailing socket on mine, just because it's what I had to hand. Thing to remember is if you do that, the extension lead you make for yourself probably isn't suitable for any earthed (metal cased) appliances.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -

Ooooops! As someone that's recently used a hedge trimmer for the first time I can imagine how easily it could be done. :-oInstigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0

I would prefer something like a proper flex connector http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/homebase-13a-3-core-flex-connector---white-823185
I needed one once when some numpty got my kettle lead caught in a sandwich toaster.
Or a plug-and socket arrangement http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/homebase-heavy-duty-2-pin-flex-connector-%28plug-and-socket%29---orange-846051
(that's a 2-pin one - get a 3-pin if the appliance needs an earth)
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

PLEASE Be sure to fit the Plug half (the bit with pins) to the hedge-trimmer - not to the cable section to plug into the wall, or you've made a "widow-maker" with potentially exposed live pins!!0 -

Otherwise you could be wiring up a fatal stun-gun.0 -
I do it the old fashioned way. Stanley blade, cut through both severed ends about half an inch and careful not to cut into the three wires plastic casings, pull off black outer casing, cut round plastic casing on each of the three wires enough to show copper wiring, twist each of the three wires to each end to join, wrap insulating tape round each, then wrap same tape round to cover sufficiently to join both ends securely and make water-tight. Job done, total time less than 15 mins. Unless I've read the thread wrong.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”
