Changing From BT

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone could help with this question....
I am coming to the end of my contract with BT after having nothing but problems for the last 18 months. Looking into other suppliers it hit me that I wasn't sure if my current BT line would be taken over by the new supplier or if a whole new phone line would need to be installed into my home.
Does anyone know if I will have to pay for a new phone line or if my current line can be transferred?
Tia

Current line can almost certainly be used - unless you're switching to Virgin Media.
A new supplier may charge an "installation fee", but that doesn't mean installing a new line and there are many deals available where installation is free.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Be aware that you may still have the problems as all bar VM will come down the very same BT line .Plus if the problems are internal it will be the same .
What tests have you carried out on the problems?0 -
With a BT line, you can use your telephone number to do a transfer to another provider, whether they are LLU or not. The telephone number is one of the simplest identifiers used in orders any telephone operator places with Openreach, as they don't have to go through the process of searching for your address and line (which is where things can start to go wrong e.g. new line installations).
Edit: with the exception of moving to Virgin Media, as victor2 stated above which almost always requires an installation0
